Things about him she couldn't have possibly known without reading his mind and that wasn't right. Not without his permission, or by any definition of the word really. She was a reader and it made mal squeamish. But he was Captain so he adapted. He had too. Just to make sure his crew was safe. As much as he hated being planet side it wasn't like he had much a choice in the matter so he had to try and make the best of things. That meant being around his crew. River and Simon were his crew available at the moment. He accepted it and would continue to protect and treat them accordingly, Serenity or not.
"And a bit more creepifyin then I'd like." He added to her thoughts and offered her a slight smile. "Soon as I figure a way, we'll be off this rock and back in the middle of No and Where." The Captain was at his best in space. Earth was unfamiliar territory. He didn't know his next step. Looking into the still surface of the magically created pool he folded his arms over his chest and watched his reflection. "I'll get us back, no goram way is this sticking."
