John Jones had so far been halfway through reading his book about the civilization of ancient Egypt and could hardly wait to get to the ones he had received that were about geography. He loved reading about old worlds and their technology. They were considered advanced during the time they lived, similar to the science that was studied in the days of Rome and Babylon as well. It also showed him a glimpse of a time, an era, from the lives of people in ages past and it occasionally reminded him of his own civilization that no longer existed. It still didn't feel that long ago for him.. especially since his wife and daughter was among those he had lost. There were times when he wished he had been there to do something... but there was also the fact that if he was there at the time, he would have been lost as well and all Martian life would be extinct. He would honor their memory as he always had before; protecting people, acting as a guardian for the human race, assisting and giving aid to anyone that may need it in times of trouble. Working for the Lawrence Police Department was also very instrumental in that. Of course he had to be good enough to not let his arrest record be completely flawless lest there be suspicion, but he was always watching a crook that got away so he could apprehend him a bit later, though before anything went wrong. The role of guardian and protector was definitely something he was skilled at and he would continue to do this for as long as he still had breath.

Though there were also good moments. Such as the recent Christmas festivities. He had been trying different foods of late, especially those in the dessert group. Was there a food group for it? If not, then there should be. There were cookies especially, but he also liked cake, donuts, ice cream, and other such goodies that he sampled in his time here the past year. It was one of the things he liked about Earth, in addition to it's amazing landscapes. The biggest thing, though, was the human spirit which interested him. Their kind wasn't always that of a destructive, as well as self-destructive, nature. There was a lot of goodness and hope amidst the bad. One thing in particular that he noticed was how effective they were when in groups. The fact that humanity had lasted this long was a testament of that. Especially since he had been seeing firsthand, on quite a few occasions.. how people can pull together and work as a whole to take care of a problem.

One example of that would be the creation of the new library. Several people had already volunteered to help with making it and seeing to it that the project was going well. He himself had known of several thrift stores that sold books that were dated but still in good condition. John had also been considering getting a few newspapers a day and putting them in the library for others to read. It was easily affordable for him and it was something he could manage. He was curious about how far it was coming along or if the library was finished by this time.. if not, then maybe he could help work on it a bit if anyone was there now. After finally reading to the end of his chapter while sitting in his room, he closed it and carried it under his arm as he left and made his way to the stairs. Due to his speed ability, it wasn't too long before he was up on the eighth floor. As he got closer, he couldn't help but find himself curious about the library's progress by this point. He had made his way to the end of the hall and opened the door, now walking inside to see what state it was in now, or if anyone was here at the moment....
