Ruby rested against his shoulder, content to be there for now as she worked on healing herself. He looked so worried, like he didn’t understand how he could have gone this far. She knew the truth of it, knew if he’d been able to fathom this as really hurting her he’d never have gone this far, it hadn’t been him, it had been the blood, the need for the blood. She saw how it was, of course she did, he’d been without it for so long and then she’d presented him with her. She who had the blood he craved the most of all, Ruby understood it, of course she did. She’d brought this on them. “I know you didn’t mean it, I know you’d never mean to hurt me and I’m sorry I kept you strung out this long.” Her hand weakly found his face again, blood stained and all as it was. It would take her a few hours to feel like herself but she’d be fine, she’d be healthy. There was no lasting damage. “When I’m better, we’ll go out, get a demon, or...hell I can summon one for you. You can drain them dry and keep my blood for...for when you want the taste of it. You need more than I can give you now Sam, that's all this was, it wasn’t you, you didn’t want to hurt me, not you. I know that. So don’t feel bad, okay?” She needed him not to feel bad, he’d get so scared if he thought he’d really hurt her, and while a voice in her head seemed to be telling her that maybe his being terrified and stopping was a good thing, she couldn’t bring herself to do it to him. “I know you’d never hurt me” she told him again, hopefully soothing him, calming him.
He needed to know this wasn't his doing. Needed to understand he wasn't to blame, maybe it was stupid and risky of her to make him feel like he didn't cause this but she hated seeing him upset and scared like this. All the logic that told her this was a wake up call fled from her mind at that look of fear in his eyes. No, what it meant was she'd get him demons, ones that he could drink from in safety, that was the right move. "Hey..." she said softly, looking up at him forgiving, how could she not forgive him, she'd caused this, done so much worse. "Its okay, we're okay. I love you and I know you'd never willingly hurt me. It's gonna be okay"
