He was more than grateful that everyone had decided to take off when they did. It would have been more than difficult to keep up a convincing smile and cheerful act to go along with it up for much longer than he already had. A breath of relief left him when they were finally left to their own business; one that, as Ruby had predicted, was followed shortly by a glare. That wasn't supposed to happen. Ruby was just supposed to sit there and take it like a man. Woman. Definitely woman, considering what she had just done to him.
"I got you cake! Free cake!" He scowled. Way to be uncool, Ruby. Way uncool.
His hand reached up to cover his mouth as he leaned forward grumpily, shifting his posture away from her as best as he could. "I think I'll pass on the cake," Sam told her, pushing his plate back. "Go ahead and eat."
He'd have to recollect himself here to keep the theme of nice date going. But a moment of crankiness was allowed, really.
