Pike jerked awake at the noise, for a moment confused as to what was happening. Then the sleep haze cleared and he realized Faith was still in the bathroom and, from the sounds of it, screaming and breaking glass. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what it was she was breaking, especially not with her shouting like that. He was up in a flash and bolting towards the bathroom, mentally cursing himself for a fool the whole time.
He was glad the door wasn't locked. It wouldn't have stopped him, but trying to explain why he'd kicked down the bathroom door to the motel's manager would have been unpleasant, to say the least. He already had enough on his plate, he didn't need to add getting kicked out of this place to it.
Pike wasn't sure what he was expecting to find behind the door. When he pushed it open and saw what was going on, and saw the cuts she probably didn't even notice, he didn't hesitate. He stepped up, gripped Faith's arms gently, and pulled her in close, wrapping his arms around her in a hug. He couldn't think of any other way to stop her. "It's okay, baby. It's okay. I know it wasn't you." He thought about what she'd been screaming. Did she hallucinate the demon? "It's just us here, Faith. Just me and you." This time, he wasn't going to let her flinch away from this one.
