Who: Robin and Marian, and OPEN to guests
What: Wedding!! :)
When: December 26th; ceremony starts at 3pm
Where: St John the Evangelist Church
Rating/Warnings: Low, and likely none
Status: Complete

Robin straightened his suit jacket in front of a mirror in the sacristy, where he and Much were waiting before the ceremony. He was mostly used to twenty-first century clothing by now, but this was different-- in a good way. He liked it, and hopefully, Marian would, as well. Gwen seemed certain that she would. That made him laugh a little; he still had moments of unreality about being in this place. Not only was the future Queen Guinevere at his wedding, she had clothed the small bridal party-- which included the lady Morgana. Of the many possible futures he had imagined over the years, this was not one of them.

But it was a welcome one. This might not be Locksley chapel, and there were people missing whom he and Marian would have liked to be at their wedding; but this was home for now, and there were new people present with whom they were glad to share this. And, the fact that this wedding was even happening was something that had not been possible in their own world.

That thought made him a bit uneasy. Over the last days, Marian had been worrying over all the details of the event today; Robin had been worrying that it might not happen without some dire occurrence. The first time they had exchanged vows had been a desperate improvisation as they were strung up in the desert, facing death in the scorching heat. The second time was even worse, with Gisborne's sword protruding from Marian's belly, the ring barely on her finger before she was gone and Robin was left a widower. And now, they were in a place overrun with demons, rather wicked angels, and all sorts of other beings who could interfere.

But, it was pointless to worry about something they had little control over. All he could do was pray that everything went well, try to relax, and go marry the woman he loved.

He smiled, feeling some of his tension evaporate. That, he was not worried about in the slightest.

The priest came into the room then and nodded to them. "If you're ready, we can begin," he said cheerfully.

"I'm ready," Robin replied, breaking into a grin as he looked at Much.

((OOC: Everybody but baddies were invited, so if your pups would like to be here, they're more than welcome. And if you don't have time to thread or just don't have much to say, please pop up an OOC comment so we know they're there! :))

Much smiled when Robin grinned. His friend was so excited, and of course he had every right to be. This time, when he and Marian were married, he wouldn't watch her die a few short minutes later. And Much would get to see his two friends finally together, without having to spend all their time hiding away. Here, they might have to worry about demons and vampires, but they didn't need to worry about people knowing they were together.

"More than ready, I should say," he added, the smile widening.

Robin laughed. "You've got that right." Besides the amount of time it had taken to get here, as well as how very much he was looking forward to being able to refer to Marian as his wife without any confusion, that they were trying for a family made him want to get this done, too. The future he dreamt of might have shifted from Locksley Manor to an apartment complex, but it still consisted of Marian at his side and their children around them, and this was a major step toward that.

But, he was getting ahead of himself. First, they had to have the wedding. As he and Much joined Father Carter at the door, he stopped to give his friend a hug. "I'm very glad you're here." Three weeks ago, he had wondered at whether he would be comfortable with this situation; however, all of that was behind them now, and he could not think of anyone else he would want standing beside him. Much was not just the most loyal of friends, he was family.

Much put his arms around Robin, returning the hug. There was still that little part of him that was surprised by gestures and comments like this when they came from Robin. He had gotten so used to a sadder, angrier version of his friend.

"And I am very glad to be here. Lucky too. I bet there's a lot of people who would like to be best man in the most talked about wedding in over 800 years," he said with a little smile, only mostly teasing.

Robin chuckled. "Oh, of course. I've been turning away bribes for weeks now." That was when he glanced at the priest, who was giving them a baffled look. Remembering that Father Carter had remarked on his and Marian's names and that they had told him it was something of a joke with them, Robin gave the man a conspiratorial smile and explained, "The whole 'Robin Hood' thing." It was not really a lie. It did have to do with the whole "Robin Hood" thing... just not in the way Father understood them to mean.

The elderly man laughed. "Of course!" Satisfied that they were set to go, he said, "Well, let's go wait for your Marian." Turning, he went out the sacristy door and into the front of the church, Robin and Much falling into step behind him.

She wasn't panicking...Much, anyway. Yes there was a lot going into this, and they had been quite good and how they managed to purchase everything without a high cost. Gwen helped with the wedding dress, her seamstress skills helping in that area, and she bought them the few flowers they needed for a Christmas gift. She really had to find a way to repay her later. Once she had spoke to both Much and Robin, and realised that everything honestly was fine, she had managed to calm down.

Gwen was honestly the only thing keeping her sane, keeping her in her seat as Morgana knotted up some of her hair so it was pulled back from her face. Then it was Gwen's turn, placing a few flowers within the dtrande. Marian had to admit, she was quite happy to have such a thing, after all Gwen was quite known for having flowers in her dark curls so Marian felt it was even more personal. The dress she made was beautiful, better than anything back home, and to have her adding finishing touches such as she few flowers and then the veil was just perfect.

She had glanced at the clock on the wall many a time and when it finally read the time she wanted she took one last look in the mirror. The veil covering her face didn't hide the beautiful present Robin had given her before he left. The jewellery took pride amongst her outfit and she was more than happy for them to outshine her. After a not so long journey she found herself standing in front of the church, taking a deep breath as Morgana handed her the flowers and gave her a hug. And then she was being told it was time.

Finally.

Father Carter had taken his place at the very center of the altar space, Robin standing to his left and Much beside him. Robin was just exchanging smiles with a few of the guests, and a wink to Gwen, when the organ played the opening notes of the song Marian had picked for the procession, and his attention was instantly riveted to the door at the end of the aisle. Morgana entered first, and distantly, Robin noted that she looked lovely as ever; but, he was actually waiting for the woman who stepped into the church several paces behind her.

His breath left him when Marian came into view. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever known, and given the chance to be made up like a queen, was more elegant than any regent had ever been. Her features were not overly visible, due to the veil she wore, and he could not wait to lift it, to be able to look into eyes so blue, the deepest sea could not match them; to see whether she was tearing up, or grinning like a fool, as he felt himself beginning to do.

Mostly, he could not wait to have this be done. He had been looking forward to this, and was glad that they were able to have a good, proper wedding; but mostly, he was looking forward to having her unquestionably be his wife again, and to be her husband for the first real time in her memory.

She had given Gwen a hug before letting her head in, smiling at Morgana. The nerves were taking over though she really was feeling excited. Taking a deep breath, she smiled one more time before Morgana was in front of her, walking a few steps ahead of her. Then she knew it was her turn and she walked in, still taking deep breaths. She could see various friends, people she worked with. But she wasn't focusing on them, her eyes were on the man standing waiting for her.

He'd have to wear that suit more often was her first thought. He looked amazing, and she just wanted to be his wife and have this ceremony finished so she could tell him so. She had waited so long for this moment and now it was within her grasp. She smiled at Morgana when they both reached the altar, handing over the flowers like she had been told to do. Then she was turning and facing Robin, the grin on her face getting bigger.

"Hello," she said quietly.

As she neared, Robin was able to see her better through the gauzy veil; and if his attention had been riveted on her before, being able to make eye contact held him spellbound. He was overwhelmed by how very much he loved her, and by a fierce pride that she was his. There had been several times, mostly back at home but occasionally here, that he had been more than a little uncertain as to whether they would be able to get to this point. When he left her to join the king on Crusade, he had thought that she would be married to another by the time he returned-- if he returned. Then, in the first few months after he was back, things were often prickly, at best, between them. He could not entirely blame her, but it had still hurt. And then, she had nearly married Gisborne, right after having been briefly dead... and none of that was to mention the year following that, some of which he would really rather not think about.

Actually, he would not have been able to think of it now, even if he wished to. Those reflections had occurred to him the night before, but now the memories that flitted through his mind as he watched her walk toward him were all good ones. He remembered running through the fields around Locksley and Knighton as children... the expression on her face as he opened his eyes after their first kiss... how nervous he had been and how pleased she had looked when he proposed to her (both times)... the sense of relief he had felt at finding her unwed upon his return... discovering that she still cared enough to save his life, when he was getting himself outlawed... finding her attempting to feed the village of Clun, so magnificent in the face of the threat those guards had posed... the way she grinned when he rode up outside of Locksley chapel...

...and before he could think much further, she was standing beside him in the front of this church, greeting him. "Hello," he murmured in return, wondering if he was succeeding in hiding any of the mischievous impulses that suddenly seized him. He probably was not, at least from her; Marian could read him too well. So, it was likely that she could at least guess that only a bred-from-birth sense of propriety was keeping him from giving the bride a kiss before the ceremony, rather than after it; or from asking that Father Carter "get on with it," as had been done in a couple of movie versions of their story which they had seen.

And in fact, the priest had started talking, so Robin tried to listen to what was being said, although it was awfully difficult to turn his attention to anyone other than Marian.

Her eyes couldn't move away from him no matter how often she told herself to look away. She wanted this over with right now, wanted to call him her husband now and not in however long it took this ceremony to finish. Licking her lips, she smiled a little when she vaguely heard the Priest say something about vows. Wait, when did they get that far on? Looking to Father Carter, she tried to compose herself before looking to Robin. Had she really been that focused on his eyes that she hadn't heard a single word that man had said, or any of the things she had to do? Had she just done them automatically but taken no notice?

Robin's eyes always did do that to her.

She smiled as Robin began to say his vows, taking a deep breath as she tried to stop the tears she felt surfacing. She couldn't cry, it was a stupid thing to do. And Morgana would hurt her if she ruined the delicate make up on her face. But the moment she heard 'I, Robin, take you,' she knew she wouldn't be able to stop herself. Then it was her turn and she nodded at Father Carter so he knew she was ready. With every word she said she could hear her voice crack slightly, tipping her head back with a small laugh as she tried to push back the tears. Then she had finished what she had to say and she had never felt happier in her life. This was how it was meant to be and looking at Robin, knowing he was hers and hers alone in the eyes of the law and God was the best feel ever.

But it was yet to be announced, and she was yet to have a ring on her finger. So she took another deep breath, giving Robin a grin as she awaited her next instruction.

Robin thought he had listened attentively to the liturgy, but by the time Father Carter indicated that he and Marian should leave their seats off to the side of the chancel, he could not have said what any of it had been about. All he remembered was the feel of Marian's hand in his throughout the readings and sermon. There were countless moments that they shared in which he found contentment, many of them intimate, and others slightly silly; but there was just something so simple and perfect about holding hands. Whoever had first thought of it was a genius, in his opinion.

The contact was briefly broken as they took their places in front of their friends, but then they were told to join hands again; and soon, he was being told what to say. The words were a little different than the ones they had spoken in the desert, but were close enough that the memory of her prompting him made his smile change for just a second. He had not been able to see her then, as they had been bound back-to-back, and had had to content himself with her voice, and the sweet way she leaned against him.

Now, he was able to watch her reaction to his vows, try to convey to her just how sincerely he meant them, touched when she teared up and unable not to smile at that; it was rare that Marian's emotions got the better of her, especially in public. And then, it was her turn, and the unsteadiness in her voice let him laugh softly with her. When she finished, he winked at her; they were nearly there.

Father Carter blessed the rings that Much brought over, and with a few more words, Robin was slipping the gold band onto her finger. Then, it was her turn to do the same. This was one thing that made him exceptionally glad that they were marrying in this time; in their own, he would not have worn a wedding ring, but he very much liked that he got to. It stood for everything they were, everything they had been through; it told the world that he was hers-- even if a random person would not know exactly whom she was,-- and that he was fortunate enough that she had taken him. He quickly raised her hand to his lips, kissing the ring on her finger, just before the priest told Robin that he could kiss his bride. Finally, he lifted the veil from her face.

They were in church, in front of a group of people, so he gently cupped her face, conscious not to let his hands roam. Still, that he was finally getting to kiss her as his wife, at the beginning of their lives together instead of the end, meant that he could not keep that happiness, love, and relief out of it. He realized when he finally moved back that it was perhaps the most passionate kiss they had every shared, in that the sheer amount of emotion in it was unparalleled.

Her eyes kept going from the ring on her finger to his eyes, not fully believing that it was actually happening. They were married, the ring was there on both fingers to prove it. Everything else was a blur until he reached over, the veil slowly moving back over her head. She had been told that it wasn't the norm now to have the veil like that, but she had wanted something similar to what she would have had at home.

She smiled as his hands came to her cheeks, pulling her lips to his. Something was different, as strange as that sounded to her. This kiss had more emotion behind it that she had ever felt before. Yes she always loved him and their kisses always showed that. But something about this one meant so much more. She was his, she was his wife and she was happy and excited and so in love with him. Nothing could get better than that moment.

Pulling back, she laughed a little as she looked into his eyes. The rest of the ceremony went by quickly and then it was their turn to leave the chutch. Walking up the aisle, her hand firmly in Robin's, she grinned at those of her friends that had showed up before turning to Robin.

"We made it," she said quietly, so only he could hear.

The rest of the mass went by in something of a blur, Robin having given up on paying attention after failing so miserably at it earlier. Instead, he was pleased to keep his attention focused on holding Marian's hand once again-- his wife's hand. And not only was she his wife, but she was also alive and well and happy, and therefore, he was feeling himself experiencing all of those things deeply, as well.

Soon, they were being introduced by Father Carter to their friends as "Mr. and Mrs. Locksley," which did make him laugh just a bit. It also sent a small pang of regret through him; Marian had been raised to be a lady, and neither in this life nor in the one they left behind could he offer her that. He could not make her Lady of Locksley or Countess of Huntingdon, as he had always intended. Still, this was nothing that he could change, so he would do what he could: he would treat her as though she was all of those things and more.

As they walked out of the church, Marian's words made him smile. "Finally," he agreed.
