-------------------------

Sarah Connor knew that she would need a new place to live soon. She didn't exactly have much cash left, only a couple hundred in her pocket. Just enough for food and rent payment for another month. She was protected as much as she knew for now. She had an amulet. And she had been laying salt lines on her doors and windows at her other apartment.. which the landlord had already told her several times that it wasn't exactly a good thing. But what did he know? He didn't know about demons. Didn't know that they were in the middle of an Apocalypse that many were trying to prevent. She had already been tempted to tell him about it and maybe even about her own. But then he would think she was crazy, and she already went down that road before, thanks so very much.

It wasn't just the money problem that pushed her in this direction. It was that Thanksgiving dinner a month before. She had met a few people. They seemed nice. And probably good fighters, even a few had special abilities. And there was also that mess with the fake lives. She had forgotten her identity, her future.. her family. All because of an angel who wanted them to get back on track and remember who they are instead of wasting time with all this little stuff. Sarah knew enough about that. She had already made a few sacrifices in her life. She and John had some little things, like birthdays or a holiday. But they never lost sight of the big picture near the end. There were clearly powerful forces at work here. She wasn't exactly a religious person and Zach's 'experiment' did not exactly give her a reason to any more than she did now.

Sarah needed to move in to the apartments, needed to live with Team Good Guy. She'd hoped for more time to prepare. Time to think over it more. But time was running out. And having a place to stay was better than being on the streets. And she did know it was quite protective against demons and other malevolent things. But what about humans? She didn't doubt that there were some here that were more than capable of dealing with it. But against a machine. One who looked like a man with guns, a man with one purpose. A thing that would walk right in, taking the life of anyone that got in his way. Because that was all they did. They find you, kill you. Nothing would stop them until they did it or until you destroyed them. That was her main worry. What if It came here looking for her and found the place? But there were.. superheroes here, right? And strong people, and witches. Maybe they could handle robots. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that, they were already at war enough as it is.

So she had driven over with a car she had acquired before. Well, stole it. But she'd left it five blocks away and continued walking the rest of the way. All she had now were the clothes on her back and a pistol tucked away behind her jacket. And the amulet around her neck, of course. She was never without that. She now stood outside the apartment complex. This was it. Hopefully her new home. Maybe she could try to get to know some of the residents better. She'd still be guarded, it was her way. But maybe she could meet new friends. She at least knew Star now, so that was something. Taking a deep breath, she then pushed open the doors and walked into the lobby, ready to face whatever happened next...

Star had been out making the rounds, as she did from time to time, especially when she couldn't sleep, which was fairly often. It was something she was working on, but she didn't figure she'd get over sleeping in shifts anytime soon, it was too ingrained into her as a survival trait.

Usually when she couldn't sleep she just made a quick round of all the public areas, just to make sure everything was as it should be, which was why she was surprised to find a newcomer when she checked the lobby. She grinned when she realized who it was, giving a low 'yoo-hoo' of a whistle, just in case the other woman hadn't seen her yet.

Usually Star wasn't the one to greet the new arrivals, but that was mostly because she avoided it, since people tended to get a little weirded out that she didn't talk at all, but this was something different, this one she could handle.

Sarah had stopped, looking at the other woman with slight surprise. She remembered her from that fake life, and possibly from that Thanksgiving dinner. Star was, so far, the only person she had trusted enough to reveal her true identity to. Maybe she could tell others. Time would tell.. at the least, maybe she could talk to one or two of the complex heads about it later.

She waved then, nodding to show she recognized her. "Hey, so.. I hear these rooms are free? And we can have whatever empty room that we happen to see and like first? Can't much afford the other place now. And the owner wasn't too fond of salt lines under the door." She paused. "But... I have a couple questions I'd like to ask. It's been one of my main concerns about living here. Since you've been here in this world, has one of Them shown up and followed you?" She didn't see a need to elaborate. Knowing the type of world Star came from and that Sarah wanted to stop, she had a feeling Star would understand what she meant by them. Machines who look like men.

She had nodded at the first question, after all, the rooms were free, and it was easier than trying to explain the salt and the traps to local landlords. She tilted her head as she waited for the next question, looking a little like a curious puppy, really.

She knew exactly what, and who, the other woman meant by 'them', and she shook her head, after all, none of them had shown up yet, and with Star it was always a 'yet', because she had thought they were there for a while, but she wasn't going to worry Sarah with what had turned out to be a paranoid delusion. She also wasn't going to bring up her fear that this was all some Cyberdine experiment and they were all floating in tanks somewhere with their brains being milked for information.

She tugged her notepad out of her back pocket, writing a quick: Yes, rooms are free, no machines.

The word yet had entered Sarah's mind too, as she read the note. So they had not come for Star, or for her. Didn't mean they wouldn't later. Or that one would somehow get through the seal-break that had been letting many others come through to this world. She felt a bit more at ease now. Probably wouldn't ever fully drop her guard, though, but that was her. But it made things a little easier now. "That's good, glad to hear that. Hopefully if one does show up, there's enough strong people around to deal with it."

She paused, glancing to the door leading through the rest of the complex. "Guess this is my new home, then. I'm hoping to get a room on the first floor." It'd be a good position, first floor, she would be able to get to an exit that much quicker if there was a situation. Not just terminators, but anything. "What.. what exactly do you do here? I'd heard you did some work for the place."

Star nodded, giving the other woman a thumbs-up before scrawling out another quick note: I think there's still a couple rooms open down here. I'm up on the 3rd floor. She stepped aside to let Sarah pass, glancing down the hall herself and pointing out what she believed was an empty room.

She nodded at the question, flipping to a new page on her notepad before answering with: I'm the head of maintenance, and pretty much the only one on the maintenance crew, so if you've got problems with your heater or anything, let me know, I'll bang it into shape. There was a smaller, and somehow fonder smile as she added: John taught me a lot of things, how to keep things running was the easy stuff.
