Who: Shay & open
Where: the mall
When: Afternoon-ish, 9 days until Christmas
Warnings: shouldn't be any
It was a dark and stormy night, no, not really, it was a mildly stormy afternoon and while Shay didn't generally mind the weather, as she had any number of hideouts to hole up in until it wasn't so bad, she was drawn to the mall that day. Probably it was because with all the lights and music and all the people, it was almost like a major bash in New Pretty Town back home, that, combined with the fact that it had been a while since she'd had any real human contact, was enough to push her inside.
They didn't have Christmas when she was from, so it was all new to her, and judging by what she picked up from the TV and the radio and random cell phone calls drifting through her range for the past few weeks, it was almost enough to make her sick, the blatant consumerism, that kind of thing was what had pushed the world to the brink of destruction so that all it needed was one last nudge. Which it had gotten by way of the oil virus and the Crash.
Right at present, however, Shay found herself momentarily dazzled, it really was like a bash, a really good one. She'd been to the mall before, of course, a few times, but it was different now with all the lights and decorations and even more crowded than usual. She just let herself be pulled along by the crowd for a few moments, finally breaking away in one of the plazas so that she could lean against a railing, looking at the floor below, trying to take everything in.
She hardly looked like someone who'd been living on the street for the past month or two, but that was because she knew how to take care of herself, and to talk herself into borrowing someone's shower when she really needed one. She was just a little damp from having been outside, and a little skinnier than she had been when she'd been living at the complex, but not dangerously so, although without that extra softness to her features she looked vaguely predatory, moreso than she had while she was there, which was probably part of the reason most people were giving her as wide a berth as possible in the crowds.
