Sam smiled against her lips as soon as Ruby declared that she believed him. She needed to believe him, because Sam didn't think he could make her better without her trying and working with him here. Ruby and her kid were going to be fine. They'd figure this mess out, then they could be the happy mother and daughter that they were supposed to be. All of this chaos and danger wasn't suited for them; they deserved to be happy and safe, after all. Sam was going to sort all of this out for them, then they were going to - they were going to not get ahead of themselves. Or, at least, he wasn't going to get ahead of himself. One thing at a time. Right now, he'd focus on making Ruby feel safe and comforted. Tomorrow, they'd tackle the stuff at work and then they'd move on from there. He knew that he wasn't the only one concerned about the situation. Knowing that he had people who wanted to end this just as much as he did was comforting. It was like there was an entire army of people out there who were either willing to help or willing to get out of the way. Save for the few stubborn souls who still refused to believe what was happening and kept coming to work anyway, Sam thought that they had a good shot at teaming up and figuring this mess out together. At the very least, he knew that he could rely on Smith. At least, he hoped he could. The guy was sometimes...Sam was pretty sure that the man thought that he was completely insane. And, hey, maybe he was. It wasn't a shot in the dark, all things considered.
"It's stupid," Sam responded, breaking free from the kiss. He didn't pull away from Ruby though; he liked being close to her. Sam just hoped that she didn't mind. "At least, I feel like it's probably stupid of us to be doing. But I don't care. Do you care? 'Cause while it's probably stupid and crazy and all that crap, it's still..." He trailed off, not quite sure on how to word it. It was still them. And that was special. He couldn't say that without sounding too weird, could he? "It still feels right. And we're not around anyone now. It's just us. Screw why we shouldn't and focus on why we should." Sam had his own worries, naturally. He had walked into this apartment with them. But they didn't have anyone here to judge or glare. They were safe here. What other people thought simply didn't matter.
"I like you," Sam said, hand reaching out to find her own. He had been pulled down, partially so that he was leaning over her, but Sam was holding his weight well enough by propping himself up with his other arm against the back of the couch. He didn't want to fall on her or anything like that. Sam was a big guy, and Ruby could easily be pancaked or something considering how small she was. And that? Would really suck. "I don't think the rest should matter."
