God, he took her hand and pulled her toward the couch and all she could do was follow, almost blindly, she barely knew him and still she followed. Maybe he was right about waiting to see her little girl. Maybe it was best to let Lauren sleep while she felt like it. But Ruby knew the child would take to Sam as well as she had. She could almost tell. It would mean something to see them together all the same. He sat down close to her. Very close, and very much watching her. All the same, she took the coffee, taking a long sip and keeping her gaze fixed on him.
"You can see her later. You're right. She should sleep. But she'd love you y'know. You have a way with kids. I can tell." And she weirdly could tell, there was something about him, in spite of all her memories and all her darkness inside she knew Sam would be good to her daughter, would help her ensure Lauren that everything was okay. She sipped at the coffee not even a little awkward in his presence. Weirdly, she found she wanted more.
"Hey...come here?" she said softly, moving a little closer to him and sliding her hand across to meet his. Sitting exactly where she was supposed to. Even if that thought made no sense at all logically. "You can tell me about your research, maybe take my mind off of all this, how about it?" Sure she was being forward. But she could see sitting the way he was was awkward in his own way. Maybe if she removed that barrier it'd be easier.
