Sam shot Ruby an uncertain look before he slipped past her and moved inside. He didn't say anything at first - he figured he'd let Ruby do that - but instead chose to look around her apartment quietly. When he seemed satisfied, Sam found himself shooting Ruby a concerned gaze. "It's okay. I know you're upset right now." He awkwardly stepped to the side and set their coffees onto the first table he could find. "I needed a break from all the research anyway." He slid his hands into his pockets, shoulders awkwardly shifting with the movement. He felt comfortable around her. Just not so much in this place. Sam didn't know why that was, except for maybe because he knew that there were people here who could settle that itch of his down. He had to ignore them. He was here for a more important cause right now.
"She's sleeping," Sam said, shaking his head, "if she's been having trouble with it, I don't want to risk waking her. Maybe later, okay?" He wouldn't have minded sitting down and trying to talk some sense into the girl, but that could wait for a more convenient time. The kid needed some rest. Until then, he could focus on Ruby. Because right now? Ruby really did look like she needed someone to make her feel less crappy than she obviously felt. He extended a hand toward her. "I think you should sit down for a little while. Not by the door this time either." He wanted to do more than force her to settle down on some chair or couch or whatever. Sam wanted to hug her. He wanted to hold her in his arms and tell her that they were gonna be fine; that she and Lauren were going to make it through all this weird stuff, no matter what. He didn't know why he felt like it was so important that he make her feel better, but it did. It bothered him to an unbelievable point and Sam couldn't quite figure out why.
"Come on." He took her hand this time, pulling at her arm gently. Before she could protest, Sam had led her to her couch. He gestured for her to sit down before he moved back to retrieve one of the cups of coffee for her. Sam gave it to her, then sat down at her right. He shifted on the couch so that he was sitting close. Hands clasped together in his lap, Sam kept his eyes trained on her and bit back a frown at the urge to put his arms around her.
