Entry tags:angela montenegro, guinevere, phoebe halliwell, robin hood

Who: Rob Kingsley, Gwen James, Phoebe Whitaker, Angela Gibbs
What: Rob has to eat lunch in the cafeteria, and Phoebe's thrilled as ever to see him.
When: lunchtime on the 28th
Where: the cafeteria
Rating/Warnings: TBD; ex-spousal squabblings and other joyous exchanges :D

Rob refrained from banging his head against his desk, but just barely. A concussion never solved anything, he reminded himself. He had to forget his packed lunch today, of all days, when there wasn't even the option of swinging over to the Olive Garden or Appleby's. Right at this moment, he could really go for something from a drinks menu at one of those places; that might even make his upcoming meal break bearable. Not much else could, not if Phoebe was working today.

For about the millionth time, he cursed whatever stroke of fate led him to find a job he actually quite enjoyed at the same place his ex-wife worked with the food. He never fully trusted that she had not done something horrible to his plate, on the rare occasions he was forced to eat at work. How the hell had they both wound up in Lawrence, Kansas, at the same company? What sort of cosmic joke was that, anyway? Maybe it was punishment for not really thinking about her since the marriage ended; but he hardly considered that such a horrible thing. They'd been married for a grand total of two days, after having met two days earlier. He'd just learnt that his first wife was getting remarried; some overreaction was bound to happen, regardless of the fact that he was happy for her. And it was Vegas-- that's what people did in Vegas.

Okay, so he probably should have mentioned that he'd been married before, instead of dropping it into what turned out to be their final argument. But it was not as if she hadn't kept some pretty big things from him, either. Maybe she should have tried to look past his accent and the words "law student." Maybe he should have tried to look past her accent and a dress that she might as well not even have bothered putting on, for all that it covered. Maybe they should have spent more time talking and less time breaking the clearance-sale bed in his flat.

Anyway. It was over and done with now, and should have just been history. It would have just been history, except they had somehow wound up in the same building, four years later, and she was now convinced that he'd orchestrated the whole thing. He still wasn't sure if she thought he had set up the situation in order to torture her or to get her back, but she did a damned good job of torturing him because of her delusion.

His stomach rumbled, and he glanced at the door to his office. Hopefully, Gwen would get here soon and he could get this over with.

Studying cases of workers suing their employers over avoidable incidents had led Rob to want to help everyone avoid those incidents in the first place, workers and employers alike; so, this job had been exactly what he was looking for. And his coworkers had only sweetened the pot; Buffy might be hands-off, between her husband and the constant "meetings" with Dean Smith (which fooled exactly nobody), but she still brightened the department considerably.

Then, there was Angela. Gorgeous, fun, smart, and not looking for a commitment-- exactly what he needed after the debacle of his last divorce, the sting of which had only recently faded away. They hooked up when they wanted, hooked up with other people if they wanted to do that, and had a great time in the process. A really great time; she was creative with more than just her music.

And judging from her grin and the completely unsubtle euphemism (so blatant, he wasn't even sure that could count as a euphemism), tonight would definitely not be a disappointment. "Great; glad I can fill in that opening for you," he replied with a mischievous wink. "Say, about seven-ish?"

He leaned back and glanced over at Gwen. "Are you going to be home tonight, or do you have plans?"

One of these days she was going to castrate this man. She rolled her eyes as he popped his head into Ange's office, trying to resist the temptation to kick him up the ass and get him to stop being a prat. Perhaps castration would work, he'd stop thinking with that particular part of his body and actually focus on other things than getting a night with any woman who shows interest. No wonder he'd been divorced so many times, opening himself up emotionally to women who originally wanted him in bed and he got carried away. She glanced away, clearing her throat at the thought. She couldn't blame him, it wasn't his fault he was such a romantic idiot sometimes.

She leaned against the wall as she tried to drown out what was being said, rolling her eyes as Angela said such a blatant innuendo. Didn't she know how unattractive it was to be that easy? It was a wonder she hadn't found herself with worse men than Robin. She just hoped she didn't rope Robin into another emotional attachment. Then Gwen would have no choice but to take matters in her own hands and despite being small, she knew she could take Angela in a fight easily.

When Robin turned to face her and question her on her plans that evening she rose her eyebrow and gave him a look. One that he clearly would know meant if he dared bring her back to their home that night she would not be responsible for her actions.

"I'm in. All night."

The look that Gwen shot him left him no doubt as to what she thought of his activities; and if he had hoped that there was a chance that she'd finally lightened up about his arrangement with Angela, her answer would have shot that hope down.

Fortunately, he harbored no such expectations, and glanced back at Ange with a good-natured eye roll. "Looks like it'll have to be your place. I'll bring dinner." With another grin and a wink, he rejoined Gwen in the corridor, and gestured toward the elevator bay.

As they resumed walking, he glanced over at her. "You know, you should give Ange a chance. You'd really like her, if you tried." He was aware that Gwen distrusted his arrangement with her, moreso as time went on, thinking that he was going to fall for her. At least, with his random dates, Gwen found it easier to accept that it was just a one- or two-shot deal. He really liked Angela, but what they had was all they would ever have, and that's exactly how they both wanted it.

"And if not, you should at least be nicer to her."

At that, he broke off any eye contact and walked just a bit faster, since he hoped she wouldn't get into how he had treated some of her "friends." He'd never been outright rude, but there may have been a threat thrown around here or there...

She rolled her eyes at that, starting to walk when he was ready to stop being a manwhore and actually go get lunch. She was hungry and not really in the mood for his stupidity when it came to women. One of these days he was going to find himself alone because he was so careless with them. Well he wouldn't be alone, because she knew how much he annoyed her she couldn't leave him be. She cared too much for him.

"No thanks. She's your plaything, I don't need to get to know her."

She shook her head when he started to walk ahead of her. He had a cheek to talk, after all the stories she'd heard from men she had dated. He wasn't exactly sunshine and roses when they first came to the house to pick her up.

"Don't even think you can tell me to be nicer, you're worse."

"She's not my 'plaything,'" he argued, greatly disliking the term. Hoping to shake Gwen out of her rather uncharacteristic grumpiness, he grinned and added, "If anything, I'm hers." Hopefully, that would either make her laugh, or at least redirect her ire away from Ange.

When she did mention his treatment of her dates, he said, "Only to the ones in passing that are no good. Angela's a good person, has been around awhile, and will continue to be around." Deciding to skip the elevator in favor of the stairs, he went over and pushed the door open, holding it for Gwen. "Let up on her. Please."
