There had been a few suspicions raised at the precinct station. John could sense that. He had picked up a stray thought or two about the matter. It seemed that perps were being subdued, followed by an anonymous tip. Or perhaps a citizen had merely found the criminals that way and called it in. But.. it didn't seem so random of late. It seemed more frequent. So, as he was driving and after hearing another report over his radio, Detective John Jones had told the captain that he would look into it. And he had been. He had found it rather unusual that the calls repeatedly came from a phone that was outside Kansas. Or it was a disposable cell, making it hard to track. The other cops found that odd as well.
It had not taken him very long to drive to the location. Would have been quicker if he flew, but.. perhaps not yet. He was still on duty for another hour or two. He had pulled into the parking lot then and stepped out of his car, walking into the alley. And there they were. A man and a woman. He understood how some of them worked. One played victim while the other did the main act. It tended to be effective. He stood there quietly, looking at his surroundings for a long minute. It would seem that it was just him and the two unconscious thugs. Should be safe. So he knelt down and held a hand above the man, a faint light on his palm. It was then that John saw into his mind. It was brief, quick flashes. Showing him how they operated. But.. then the man's head was going against the girls. And then blackness.
John sighed, using the same tactic on the downed girl as well. It was pretty much the same images. They couldn't have been so careless as to knock each other out. Perhaps it was a vigilante? Maybe it was one of the Justice League, or perhaps Tim, or one of the Batgirls? Or maybe someone else altogether. He stood up then. Regardless of how it happened, the fact remained that there were still two criminals to take in. The first thing he should do is cuff them and put them in his car. But he was still curious, and his eyes scanned around again, looking around and up as he wondered if the caller was still in the area. Maybe he could pick up a thought. Or switch to his infra-red vision that Martians like himself were capable of..
