Who: Shay & John Jones Where: Half-lit alley somewhere in town When: After dark on the 15th What: Almost-chance meeting Warnings: Shay knocking some sense into a couple lowlifes
After having caught Damien’s Morse code message the other night, Shay was on the lookout for other such things, as well as the vampires he’d warned her about, but she was also keeping an eye out for her usual prey, though the herd had been thinned somewhat just by the bad weather. She didn’t mind it, wet pavement and brickwork made climbing buildings more of a challenge, which helped to keep her brain going, kept her icy so she didn’t have to resort to cutting.
Just at that moment she was perched like a gargoyle on the corner of an office block, watching the streets below like a hawk. No one saw her because no one wanted to, she blended into the shadows in dark jeans and a hoodie the same as if she’d still had her sneak-suit and its programmable camouflage scales.
She’d been watching the pair of bait-and-switch artists for the past few days, it was a simple enough ploy, let the girl go first, spot one of the suits leaving the building, lure him into the alley with stories of a hurt friend, a kitten stuck under a dumpster, anything that would tug the heartstrings, luring him in only to find her boyfriend there to rob him at knifepoint, she’d only let them go this long to make sure she knew their patterns, it was simple enough to swing her way down the fire escape behind them while they were looking for a mark, landing lightly and dispatching them by little more than knocking their heads together before pulling up her eyescreen to connect to the police department’s anonymous tip line.
What she didn’t know was that the serial number for her skintenna showed up as an out-of-state or disposable cell phone, she also didn't realize that more than one tip from the same number would raise any red flags, why would it? Just a concerned citizen after all. She returned to her perch on the corner of the roof, just watching the now-unconscious bodies, waiting for the boys in blue to show up before she went on her way.
