She'd be by his side if what? If what? Sam furrowed his brow, knowing that there was something there that she wasn't telling him. Maybe she was in the same headspace as him. Maybe Ruby knew that there was a very good chance that he wasn't going to come out of this thing alive. And if he didn't, she wanted to be there? What good would that do her? If he died, Sam wanted Ruby as far away from Lilith as possible. Her logic was, as far as he was concerned, kind of stupid and that was part of why he was so sure that when it came down to it, Ruby wasn't going to be there when he exchanged his first blows with Lilith. She couldn't be. Ruby was way too important to him and he was not going to watch her die. Just like everyone else. No, this time would be different. Ruby didn't deserve to die and Sam wasn't going to let her. It was as simple as that. She could wear the brave, determined, 'gonna be there for you, Sam' face all she wanted. When it came down to it, Lilith was his. He had been chasing after her for a hell of a long time now and if he didn't have the right to tell Ruby to back off when he finally had a shot at her....well, that would just really end up pissing him off. But the way Sam saw it was that if he had to, he'd just leave. He'd leave Ruby because ditching her before the big faceoff was better than seeing her die. She'd understand. He was pretty convinced of that.
"You do make me happy. Look at me now. Do I look like an unhappy person to you?" He scrunched his face up, trying for a mean look. It didn't last, seeing as a grin was quick to break through it and take over. "Having you is enough. I promise. So stop all this worrying and focus on the fact that you and I are actually together. Against all the odds that we had stacked against us, we're together now. And it's us against the world that doesn't want us to be together, you know. Long as I have you by my side, I can tell the world to go fuck itself because I'm not going anywhere. Not without you." Sam thought that was pretty amusing to have said, considering what he had just been thinking about. Ditching Ruby in the name of Lilith, for the revenge she was due, and for...well, the world, he supposed. But he was talking about their relationship. He was talking about them. So Sam bit down onto his lip and tried not to feel too guilty about the words he'd just offered her.
Sam leaned into her kiss, heart already jumping in excitement as she pulled him in closer. Eyes closing, Sam tried not to let Ruby's words overpower his common sense. Unfortunately for him, they usually did. He couldn't help it. She was Ruby and she knew just how to push him. And, damn, she was sexy. The sexiest woman he'd ever had the pleasure of being with and if he didn't push her back against the wall and take her right now he was going to - "We can't," Sam breathed against her lips, hating himself the second he said it. "Not here." Sam wanted to. He did. In fact, he had been mere seconds away from snapping just at Ruby's suggestion at breaking the rules and having at it inside this room. Just in here, while everyone was out there. Wondering. Just wondering. But he couldn't do it. Bobby would strangle him. Kill him. Then bring him back again she he could repeat the oh so fun gesture. Sam kept his arms around Ruby all the same, kissing her slowly. "We can...later, we can get a room. Just you and me. I want -" He bumped his nose against hers and released another breath. "I need to be with you."
