He couldn't find it in him to be annoyed at Ruby's mocking. Although, in his defense, he didn't sound that bad. Probably not. Maybe. Biting back a laugh, Sam rolled his eyes and pushed some of his hair out of his face. "You're terrible. That wasn't even a good impression." It was an amusing one, at least. He couldn't deny that. He liked that things seemed so much less heavier now. The problem was out of the way. Now they could focus on being themselves; joking around, making each other smile. He was still a little bit worried about her, but Sam was determined to see to it that Ruby didn't feel this way again. He wouldn't let her. She was too important to him and she did not need to have anything like that badgering at her. She already had enough on her plate, he figured, what with recovering from being evil and all the crazy that went with it were concerned. He didn't want to add onto it. Not if he could help it. "And if you mock me again? I'm gonna kick your little ass." He flashed another wide grin, finding that this was the first time he really had smiled in days. Knowing that Ruby was listening to him - knowing that she wasn't avoiding him, even - it made him feel good. Just being around her made him feel good. How could she ever have doubted that he wanted to be with her? How could she compare herself to a woman that she had never even met when he always ended up feeling so wonderful when he was around her?
"Yeah..." Sam looked down, frowning just a little. He didn't know for sure what he was going to do. He knew that he didn't want Ruby caught in the crossfire - not when it came to Lilith - but he didn't wanna lie to her either. He couldn't promise that he wasn't going to end up doing this thing on his own. Because if Ruby got killed because of Lilith, Sam wouldn't know what to do with himself. It was already bad enough that Sam hadn't been able to protect Dean from her. But if Lilith got her hands on Ruby too? Sam didn't quite allow himself to meet Ruby's eye. "Yeah. Of course. You can help." It was to the lengths in which Sam was willing to let Ruby help him that he didn't choose to clarify on. Sam knew that he was going to need her blood. And he knew that she'd be quite the hand when it came down to tracking Lilith down. But anything above and beyond that was in his hands. He wasn't going to let Ruby anywhere near Lilith and that was a promise that he had made himself a long, long time ago. He had vowed to protect her and he was going to make sure that, even if he didn't make it out himself, Ruby was going to live on. She had to.
"Whatever the rest is..." He put his arms around her shoulders, draping them around her loosely as he looked down into her face. This time, he was able to meet her eyes. The uncomfortable moment was over. "Yeah. We'll just keep going. Live our lives the way we want to. We don't need a plan, Ruby. As long as you're here, I don't care about a job or kids or any of that stuff. I just want you. And I want you to be happy." He reached down and took her hand, leaving the other arm at her shoulder. "Assuming? They'll be doing a lot more than assuming. Speculating, gossiping, maybe..." He grinned, then shook his head. "Nah, if I know Bobby, he's probably kept them all busy. But Bobby himself..." He cringed, just a little. He didn't want Bobby's imagination roaming when it came to the two of them. Now that was just weird. "Even so..." He leaned in and kissed her gently. "You sure you wanna be ripping your top? 'Cause I don't wanna get punched for something I didn't do. Of course, if I did the top ripping myself, at least I'd be healthily guilty of the crime committed." He smiled lightly, then pressed his forehead against hers. "You're trouble, did you know that?" He smirked, arm wrapping around her shoulder. "Never mind, we both know that you do."
