He did ask. Not so much with words, but the look on his face alone had pretty much begged Ruby for an answer to the subject she had laid out onto the table. He was already making mental notes to research Pagan traditions later, that way when Ruby decided to spring more of her witchy talk on him he'd already know exactly what she was talking about. Did he like having the answers ahead of time? Yes. Yes, he did. "I did," Sam verified with a nod, "thanks for explaining." He left it at that, too. He didn't want to make things awkward and he certainly didn't want to give Ruby the wrong impression. Exchanging his vows via Pagan tradition had never been something that Sam imagined he'd partake in, but maybe....maybe if he survived what was to come. Maybe if he and Ruby both did. He was sure that his future didn't hold children and a happily ever after, but believing that he stood a chance at some form of happiness with Ruby at his side...Sam looked down thoughtfully and furrowed his brow. It was a thought. Nothing more. Sam raised a hand and pushed some of his hair out of his eyes, shifting slightly so that he was able to side alongside Ruby a bit more comfortably at the same time. Once he was settled, he looked her over and shook his head immediately. "No. Dean won't touch you. He knows that I'd never -" Sam would never forgive him if he did. Ruby was under his protection and Dean knew that. "- you're gonna be fine, all right? I told you: I'm watching over you." He ran his fingers through her hair, letting up on the massage so that he was able to wrap both his arms around her. He didn't care that they were sitting in a trap. Hell, Sam didn't even care that on the other side of that door, Bobby, Dean, and everyone else that was here training were moving about and carrying on with their business. The door was locked. And even if it wasn't...Sam tightened his hold on her and said, "You're safe with me. I promise."
Sam breathed out a heavy sigh of relief at Ruby's statement. He hoped that she was being honest with both of them when she said that. He didn't want these doubts and fears weighing on her anymore. And even though Sam believed that she had no interest in lying to him, he did know that saying that you were going to do something didn't exactly hold much ground when it came to things emotionally. She couldn't control all of her emotions based on a few words, could she? If she was upset, she was upset. That was why Sam was vowing on the spot to make sure that Ruby was aware of how much he cared for her. Especially lately. He'd do something nice. Maybe he'd leave her a flower by her pillow in the morning, that way she'd wake up knowing that she was in his thoughts. Yeah, that seemed like a good idea. He kissed her hair and closed his eyes, breathing in her scent. "You're the only one that I want now," he told her quietly, "and I need you to remember that. Any time you start doubting yourself, remember that I'm always going to want to be with you. You're worth it. Every bit of trouble we've had on the way? It's been worth it."
He looked at her seriously for a moment, then broke out into a grin. "Oh, I know I'm a saint for putting up with you. Not because you're a demon though. Because you can be an adorable pain in my ass." He put on a high-pitched, mimicky voice. "I want fries, Sam. Go get me some french fries! Let's go hex people, Sam. Hey, Sam, you're wearing that look again, aren't you? Aren't you, Sam?" He grinned at her in amusement. "I love it though. Every second." Sam reached out for his beer again, taking the time to drain the bottle completely before he pulled his arms away from Ruby and began to stand up. He stepped outside the carpet covered trap and began to peel the rug up from the ground. They didn't need the trap anymore. Ruby had said all he'd needed to hear and Sam got the feeling that she was going to be much less likely to make a run for it now that they'd talked. Digging a pocketknife from his jeans, Sam ran the blade across the red paint he'd drawn and leaned back, letting the carpeting roll back across the floor.
