WHO: Virgil & Tony. WHAT: Random encounter. WHEN: Afternoon. WHERE: Outside the apartment building. RATING: PG to start.
The motorcycle before him needed a lot of work, without a doubt. Having had picked it up from the scrapyard, Tony knew that he was putting a lot of hope into getting this heap of metal up and running again. But, fortunately for him, he had a lot of free time on his hands. If that meant dishing all his cash into this bike project, then so be it. At least he'd obtain some level of self accomplishment that working at a crappy gas station couldn't provide him. Compared to being a part of the Dollhouse and playing his role out in the military, a job at a gas station seemed so tiny and unimportant. But it was what it was. He probably should have been grateful that he wasn't still out there getting shot at or being used physically for some crazy underground chain of insanity. So why wasn't he? Had the Dollhouse programmed him to be unhappy when they released him? Did they want for him to come back on his own so that they could swindle him into another five years? What the hell was going on with him, exactly? Too much free time generally left Tony with those kinds of unsatisfying questions floating around his head. He didn't know the answers. He didn't know who to ask about them. All he could really do was get up and keep living each day, hoping to find some sense of understanding in relation to himself and his role in the world eventually. Something would happen. A lightbulb would go off. It had to, right? Yeah. Because no one could live this way. Everyone had a purpose.
At least, he was kind of counting on it.
Wiping a grease covered rag across the handlebars of the rusted motorcycle, Tony hoisted a leg over the it and dropped down onto the seat. It wobbled dangerously, but it held fast. He furrowed his brow, focusing on the process of cleaning the cobwebs and dirt stains from each side of the handles. First the handles themselves, then the metal bars that ran from one side to the other. It was probably a waste of time, cleaning it up like this before he even got the damned thing fixed, but Tony wanted to see how it looked. He needed to know exactly which parts needed body work, that way he'd be able to save up enough to get it done. It'd take a while, but the end result would be worth it.
