Dawn gave a small nod. "Yeah. But if you had, she probably would have just done things on her own anyway. Then she might really be...dead." She slid her other hand across and cupped his, so that both her hands held one of his. "And, hey, you know, this is your chance to talk to her, make things right again." And hopefully not get back together.
"Do you want to do something? To take your mind off of this, I mean." It was the only thing she could think of at the moment-and it was probably because that's what everyone around her had always done when people died. First they got mad, then they tried to not think about it. It usually seemed to work. She hoped that it would work this time, too, because she really wanted him to cheer up-at least a little.
