Pike wasn’t really thrilled about everything he was hearing about Glory. There was a part of him, a large part, that wanted to be there helping out. But he’d chosen to stand by Faith, which meant that right now, his loyalties had to be foremost to her. If she chose to help them, he’d be right there by her side, but barring some massive cataclysm he couldn’t just go off on his own to do it. He hadn’t been kidding when he’d told Faith she was his first priority. However much he wanted to help the others, he’d committed to Faith, and you didn’t just walk out on your commitments.
He’d learned that the hard way.
Despite the fact that he was just going to get pizza, he still brought his gun and his knife. Demons, vampires from their world, the hellgod, and who knows what else lurked out there. He hadn’t been naïve in a long time, and only left his weapons behind for special occasions. Getting pizza, while very nice, was not one of those occasions. The gun was in its customary place in the inner pocket of his leather jacket, and the knife was tucked into his motorcycle boot. He still hadn’t gotten around to buying more weapons, though he did make a note to do it. Especially if vampires from his world were showing up - hostile vampires, he corrected – he would need a pair of butterfly swords. He was good with those.
He idly checked his phone, making sure Faith hadn’t changed her mind or found anything on her patrol. Sure, she was a Slayer, but he was living proof that humans could kick ass if they used their brains in a fight. Not as much ass as a Slayer, of course, but hey. He’d taken down some pretty impressive threats, from time to time. He was absolutely qualified to watch her back.
Didn’t hurt that there were other very nice things to watch from that particular vantage point. He really did support Faith’s love of leather pants.
Of course, he wasn’t qualified to be taking on hellgods. Which is why he probably should’ve been paying more attention. But tactical thoughts and thoughts of Faith were bouncing around in his head, taking up his focus and attentions. And that was his mistake.
