Who: Star & Arthur Where: Big kitchen When: eventide Warnings: shouldn’t be any, Star doesn’t talk.
Star had finally gotten a shotgun, she figured she’d need one before she started boot camp, and she wanted to be familiar with it before then. It wasn’t exactly the same as the one that she’d always considered Kyle’s, even after it was hers. But it was close enough. At that moment she was at the table in the main kitchen, and had the gun stripped down to component parts so that she could clean it all and piece it back together.
She hadn’t sawed the barrel down yet, though she had filed the sight-pin off so that she could still quick draw if she had to, which was the first thing she’d tested at the store, flipping the gun up off her hip and onto her arm, which had made the shop owner laugh and call her Annie Oakley, which had in turn made her grin and tap at the sheriff’s badge on her hat, the same as she usually did to introduce herself. To anyone who knew guns it was probably obvious that she was familiarizing herself with the weapon still, the same way someone would pet a new horse, letting it get used to her as well.
