Sam followed Ruby over to the couch and sat down beside her. He busied himself by taking another sip from his wine, then leaned forward to prop it onto the coffee table in front of them. Once that was done, he clasped his hands together and looked over at her patiently. That patience took a momentary break when he spotted the slight break in her dress. Sam subtly (or an attempt at subtly) leaned to the side, eying the small spot of skin that he was able to see through the break. He wanted to slip his hand up under that dress; run his fingers along her thigh, lean down to kiss it a few times even. He refrained from doing so - at least for the moment - and forced himself to look at her in the face. The face was better. He could concentrate if he was looking at her properly.
"No, I'm not having any second thoughts." Sam smiled a little, shaking his head. "Trust me, I wouldn't have come out here tonight if I didn't think that this was gonna work." He was surprised to find that he felt that it was. This was okay. He was okay. Something had changed. "I want to tell you something important. Something that I think we both need to hear, because quite honestly...I wouldn't be here now if I didn't feel this way." Sam reached out for her hand, his long fingers wrapping around her own carefully. "I'm proud of you." There was a certain sense of sincerity in his eyes as he spoke. If his words weren't enough, the look in his eyes probably were. "You've been true to your word and I can't help but appreciate that. I know - I know that it's been hard. But you've been doing well; well enough for me to notice and tell you so. Being at Bobby's especially...that's a huge deal. You knew that you were protected before because these people didn't have anything to say against you. If they called you out on being a demon, it was just them being judgmental and stupid. Now it's different. Now they have reason to be cruel and even violent and you're still here."
Sam squeezed at her hand lightly. "It's a big deal. At least it is for me." She was doing well and she didn't know how much it meant to Sam that she was. "I'm proud of you, Ruby. I really am."
