This was probably the first time in his entire life that Sam actually genuinely felt like someone would be able to call him a prude. When it came to Ruby, he didn't ever imagine that he would have been able to resist her the way that he was attempting to do now. In fact, in addition to his resistance, Sam expected for Ruby to protest. Maybe she would tell him that he was being incredibly stupid; maybe she'd up and try to seduce him after he told her no. It was what she probably would have done before now, wasn't it? Except that didn't seem to be the case here. Because along with that honesty, Ruby appeared to be working on other things as well. Understanding, for example. She was listening. Sam shoved his hands into his pockets, mentally urging himself to stay calm and collected. He was still very much feeling the heat of what had almost happened between them. In fact, if Sam had waited any longer he'd probably be due for a trip to the shower. Calm. He had to stay very calm.
"And I should have told you to stop sooner," Sam pointed out. This was as much his fault as it was her own. He wasn't going to let Ruby take the blame for everything. Not this time. "It's okay. Don't worry about it. We both got carried away is all. It's...hard." Sam smiled weakly. "'Specially since all I can't do anything but think about you whenever we're within a good distance of each other." He looked down again, staring at his shoes. "We've gotta wait until it's right. And right now..." Sam looked up at her, shoulders rising awkwardly in a half shrug. "It's not. I'm sorry."
