It was officially Sam's final night in Lawrence before he had to head down to Bobby's to help out with the training program that had been arranged. He hardly planned on being there every hour of every day, but most of his time was likely going to be spent in the area. As much as Sam liked hanging around the salvage yard, he didn't want to be out of the loop for too long. He had to keep his head in the game; Sam had to keep focus, practice on other demons, and ultimately listen carefully for any sign of Lilith. Sam realized that he was due to check up on the status of the seals soon. How many were left before killing Lilith off became an impossibility? How much longer did he have? He had to figure it out. And soon. The hunting boot camp was going to hinder that quite a bit, but Sam knew when he was needed. Bobby and Dean couldn't teach everyone everything all by themselves. Sure, they were capable enough, but damn it all - if that wasn't a lot of people to teach, Sam didn't know what was.
He didn't imagine that his last night in Lawrence was going to be spend at Ruby's place. Not after their last argument. Quite honestly, Sam had been considering driving out to the house that once had been his own. It was on the other side of the city and Sam was pretty sure that a family was still living in the old house, but he wouldn't have minded just parking outside and looking. Just for a little while. Instead, he found himself here. Visiting Ruby. After getting stupid drunk and talking to Pike about all of his issues with Ruby, Sam decided that maybe the best way to deal with all of this was to visit her. In person. Because that conversation over the computer wasn't going to get any better if he e-mailed her and tried to talk it out. They were both best suited doing this in person.
Hands buried in his pockets, Sam stood outside her door quietly as he waited for her to answer. That itch inside of him reminded Sam that he wasn't only there to talk, but Sam tried to ignore it. Ignoring it was what Sam had been trying to do a lot of lately. Before that feeling didn't exist. Want. Need. Now it was there. All the time. Sam really didn't know what to make of it. He knew that it wasn't right or even good for him, but at the same time...The door swung open. Sam immediately straightened up and tried to keep himself from looking like some sort of junkie looking for his next fix. He wasn't. He was her...not boyfriend. But he did care about her. And he was definitely not just here to drain her for blood.
Ruby told him to come inside. Sam nodded immediately, stepping through the doorway and into the apartment. He noted that she had herself dressed up as nicely as ever - something he would have taken more time to be fond of usually - before he turned, not quite giving Ruby the chance to say or do much else by way of greeting. "I've been doing some thinking." He drew in a deep breath. "And...drinking. Which you saw."
