Faith had left the gym feeling someone unsatisfied. She'd spent her time training, sure, but it was different from how she used to train on a regular basis. At the gym she had to pull her punches, and there weren't any weapons to work with. Plus, she felt really weird about even attempting her old jin jitsu moves there. Bear and Mac would've just laughed at her. So would the others there. So it ended with her leaving only half-fulfilled after about three hours.
On her way back to the motel, she had heard scuffling coming from a random alley. Slayer hearing had told her that the scuffling was only an attempt to cover up a whimper. She had headed on down, glad her wish for a fight was about to be fulfilled, when she came across a guy doing what every woman feared. He was holding a knife to a teenage girl's throat, though the girl was dressed like a hooker. Faith could tell she couldn't be more than fourteen. Seeing them reminded her of the last time she'd seen her mother before she died-getting into a guy's car dressed almost the same way.
It all happened within seconds. Faith had lost control, and brutally attacked the guy. What she didn't notice was that by grabbing him from behind, his knife had slipped and slashed the kid's throat open. When she finally saw her on the ground, it was the only thing that kept her from kicking in the rapist's face. He had crawled away as the Slayer dropped to her knees next to the girl, frantically trying to stem the blood that was pouring from her throat.
It hadn't worked. When the girl finally stopped moving, her eyes-glassy and lifeless-stared up at Faith, and she freaked. She began to tremble, and shook her head. "I can't can't no...I can't do this..." Faith fell back from the girl quickly, staring at the blood on her hands, everything she'd done finally hitting her full force. Pike was wrong. There was no way she could be what he wanted.
