Gwen had always like museums. What many people saw as boring, she saw as potential money sources, maybe even a new and exciting challenge. Too many places were excruciatingly easy for her to break into, and the electric thief craved something better, something to really make her work for her reward.
Nothing that appeared to be here though. It may have been her imagination, but Laurence was the most boring place in the world, in stealing terms. Nothing even worth her time. She sighed as she straightened her long silk gloves, deciding to wander back in the direction of her motel. Maybe Lindsey would still be awake and she could annoy him some. That seemed to be her main source of entertainment these days.
She wasn't paying all that much attention to her surroundings as she walked. Sure, there had been over the top, dire warnings, but she'd worked for Wolfram and Hart for years. She'd seen everything.
Or so she thought.
It was about a block from her motel when she she sensed someone following her and she stopped with a sigh. "You might as well come out."
There was a moment's pause before the woman stepped out from the shadows.
Gwen stared at her, irritated. "Why are you following me?"
The woman, a blonde in her thirties, offered a shy smile. "I just feel really drawn to you."
"Uh huh, nice try." Gwen rolled her eyes before doing a double take. The woman's eyes had turned completely black. "Okay, after I'm done kicking your ass, I'm gonna ask about that."
"I'm sorry, you'll be kicking my ass?" The woman smirked, all pretense of shyness gone. "We don't know where the hell you lot started coming from, but my boss, she wants some answers. And I'm gonna get shiny things when I being you to her all giftwrapped."
"Oh really?" Gwen arched an eyebrow as she pulled off her gloves, throwing them to one side. She could feel the energy of the charge building as she began to focus it into her hands, the ever comforting electricity dancing under her skin. The woman just smirked more widely before she brought her own hand up, telekinetically slamming Gwen against the wall. Gwen's head connected hard with the brickwork, causing her to see stars a moment. She strained against the hold, feeling pressure against her chest as her lungs began to burn for air. Blood from her head wound began to trickle down her neck before she snarled.
"Oh screw this."
She managed to twist one wrist slightly, despite the hold, channeling all her power into one hand and sending the blast of lightning out towards the woman. In the split second before it hit, Gwen caught a glimpse of some black smoke pouring out of her mouth and inwardly she prayed to Powers she didn't believe in that her power would hit before that black smoke came at her, even as the grip of her was released and she fell to the ground. Sure enough, the electricity was faster, slamming into the woman's body with thousands of volts, leaving a charred corpse behind.
Gwen took a moment to catch her breath, each drawing in of air feeling labored. That was new. And just too freaking weird. Turning, she ran from the scene, bolting for the security of her motel room.
