Not By the BooksBeverly drops enough hints to Jean-Luc that despite this being their second year together, she wants more from him. They have an affair, but his pride and need to present himself as above romantic relationships in public keeps interfering.
Temporal Accident Jean-Luc and Beverly during the first few years together on the Enterprise learn that in an alternate timeline, their son is instrumental in stopping the future Romulan attack on earth and in most other timelines it devestates many cities. However, in every timeline he exists in, he is always conceived next week and no other child but him is conceived when they are together. Beverly is willing and romantic, Picard plays along. When Beverly gets cold feet, he gently but firmly pushes her until she gives in. Afterwards she is a little mixed about the experience, and feels Picard was manipulative even though she put herself in that situation. The conception didn't work, so in a dramatic scene she uses a medical extraction device on him and assures him that she will take care of it later. After conceiving she ends the affair, but tells him that he will have to be involved in his son's life but she doesn't want to be touched by him anymore.
