I've decided to make my third character for my Fable III game, Gallows Humour. Character ideas and such are beneath the cut!
I have a 'vague' outline of an OC in his mid-to-late 20s, lower class Albionite who grew up in Bowerstone as a small-time criminal... and whose life dream is to become an archaeologist, to travel to Aurora, and to bring back artefacts and treasures. In short, to become filthy rich from raiding tombs! =D Far better than raiding pockets of drunkards and breaking into houses, yes?
I'm keen on finding a player, who'll either make an older brother or brother-role-model to pair up with my currently-nameless OC. My PB is Eddie Redmayne, in period costume. If this second character is not my OC's brother, he could be a bit older, and he could have recruited my character into a life of crime; whichever is more appealing to any interested players! This duo is modeled on the Outlaw Couple trope, without the romance. Or with it, if our characters are not related. I'm fine with either option. Their sexuality is the last thing I'm concerned about.
A life of crime is essential for this duo, which once included my OC acting as a link-boy when he was younger; a link-boy carried a lit torch for travellers at night, and many link-boys/men were criminals, leading unsuspecting nobles into dark alleys to be robbed. Another job would have been a crossing-sweeper: sweeping a street free of horse manure, mud and other materials for rich folk. Children often had multiple jobs, because if it was raining one day or something-- you could simply do something else for a few pence, then switch back.
Our characters' crimes could be linked to a small gang for a time, or just themselves acting on their own, trying to earn enough shiny gold while avoiding law enforcement. Because you can't visit a distant desert land and frolic through treasure hoard, if you're locked in gaol~
Experience of the Fable series is not required, though we do expect newcomers to do some research. This applies to historical research, too, given that the rpg is .. a historical RP. Victorian Clockpunk, a mix of the Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian eras, with bits of medievalism. The rpg has resources available, and I'm willing to help people get settled in and accustomed to the crack humour that is Fable III!
Fable's world and character design is full of serious characters, professions, lifestyles.. who can be based on fun tropes and archetypes! That isn't to say that characters are crack novelties, silly for the sake of being silly and stupid.
Examples of fun!characters from the video game are: a trio of Dungeons and Dragons-esque tabletop LARPers who used to own a magical crystal ball, capable of shrinking a player to the size of a tabletop figurine.
A citizen obsessed with collecting garden gnomes, whose collection turned out to be enchanted-- by an evil Gargoyle statue.
An obsessed Reaver + Slash fangirl who collects everything related to Master Reaver.
...and so forth! Serious consequences and whatnot are all-important, so while a character can be humorous in design, they can't literally get away with being a nuisance, breaking the law, stalking a character or whathaveyou in the game world.
