Ipswich Colony was settled in the year 1633 and is located in the modern day Massachusetts county of Essex. Pioneers would become farmers, fishermen, shipbuilders or traders. The tidal Ipswich River provided water power for mills, and salt marshes supplied hay for livestock. Ipswich Colony did well enough for itself for the next couple hundred years or so, until they discovered that not everyone in the town was a simple colonist trying to make an honest living. Accusations of Witchcraft blew through the breeze and were whispered in hushed rumors until the panic became so widespread that Ipswich was struck with its own bit of sordid history. In the Ipswich witchcraft trial, a member of the Christian Science religion was accused of using his mental powers to harm others, including a spinster living in the town. It threw the rest of the witches into a panic and the small covenant that had been formed over the years was broken as some families fled to other settlements. Over the years, the original families of the Ipswich Covenant have gone extinct, most of the bloodlines having died off or becoming diluted with time. Only one remained, the Lawrence’s. Having been passed down the gifts themselves, they knew it was only a matter of time before they passed them on to their children as well. They felt it was their duty to try one last time to revive the bloodline and keep the strongest flames of power from being snuffed out altogether. When Elizabeth eventually gave birth to a set of twins, one boy and one girl, they could not be happier to start teaching them as early as possible about their long history. At the age of thirteen the Children of Ipswich, or so they were termed by other, older magic users, had a falling out that had been brewing under the surface for years. This split the family right down the middle, as well as the rest of the population of magic users. On one hand you had The Son of Ipswich and his followers who felt that magic should not be relied on for everyday use. They felt this precious gift should never be wasted. On the other you had The Daughter of Ipswich and her followers who felt that they were given their abilities for a reason and they were entitled to use them in any way possible, constantly flexing their powers. Arguments broke out between the groups, stirring the attention of hunters from around the state as their numbers grew. Magic users slowly flocked to join the ranks and the arguments and small incidents turned into a full blown war between the factions. Some withdrew from the fight and made their homes in a nearby town, waiting for the eventual settling of the dust. Eventually The Gifted were driven from their homes in Ipswich by The Entitled, who had claimed the town for their own, and made their new territory in the city of Hamilton. A few years passed and the twins grew smarter, stronger. The war still rages on, each faction taking their small victories where they can while they plan for bigger things, hidden from humans as much as possible though a few get caught up as pawns by witches, some make friends with them, and some have even been known to tipoff hunters as to who is and who is not a witch, hoping they will be eradicated. Will you take a stand for what you believe in or will you let yourself fall to the side, refusing to join the fight? The truth remains unchanged, the war can only be ended by those powerful two - The Children of Ipswich. | |
