2009 was a year of remarkable accomplishments. Humanity witnessed the pinnacle of its evolution. For a short span of time, Earth was a veritable paradise and the genius of man seemed untouchable. They say that history wields the greatest lesson of all, a saying that has always been proven true. As technology became more and more advanced, man’s ego grew and with every step their machines took into the future, the further into the past their minds went. They did not learn to overcome their hubris; they did nothing to stop from losing themselves in arrogance. Each country became lofty of its own achievments, while simultaneously becoming greedy for those of others. Eventually, a war broke out, one that would become known as the most devastating the world has ever seen.
2012 was met not with the rejoicing of a new year, but the bombing of the Alaskan city of Juneau, devastating the capital and its surrounding in a single, powerful blow. Enemies began to surface, countries rushed to choose sides, and the United Nations was in complete pandamonum. So began a war unlike any other and, when it all ended, the paradisical version of Earth was all but entirely lost. With America reduced to almost nothing but a desert wasteland and Europe left in shambles, a new form of government was needed to guide those who had survived. The World Government was born out of the ashes of the past, and it dedicated itself to heal the wounds of the Known World’s people.
It has been more than thirty years since what has simply been referred to as The War. The world has slowly began recovering from the catastrophic devastation it suffered at the hands of man, though the vast majority of it lies barren and uninhabitable. Save for a few bleak cities scattered over the northern hemisphere, the world belongs to those who were unfortunate enough to live through the blasts and were mutated by the effects of radiation. The World Government works toward the betterment of humankind, giving the Citydwellers medicine, shelter, and technology – all semblences of what life once was. Some flee the dictatorship to live on the Outskirts; others live in the deserts, coping with the perpetual sandstorms, lack of resources, and the Raiders that haunt the land.
