For want of a nail, the shoe was lost; For want of a shoe, the horse was lost; For want of a horse, the knight was lost; For want of a knight, the battle was lost; For want of a battle, the war was lost; All for want of a nail. Love was supposed to conquer all. The one thing Lord Voldemort couldn't understand was supposed to save them all. This was supposed to be a happily ever after ending. It didn't, and it wasn't.
Harry Potter died in 1998.
No one's really sure what happened, what went wrong. It was the last battle, the one they had been prophecized to win. All anyone knows is that when the smoke cleared, Harry was really and truly dead, and Lord Voldemort stood triumphant. The Death Eaters swarmed over Hogwarts, and just like that. It was all over. As far as Voldemort was concerned, anyway. Hogwarts fell, and with it, what was left of Dumbledore's legacy and the Order of the Phoenix.
Four years later, the world remains in chaos. Death Eaters control the Ministry and Hogwarts, battles rage whenever a muggleborn has their name revealed, and more often than not, the few who remain loyal to Harry's memory and Dumbledore's ideas don't win those battles.
Wizards are expected to carry blood status papers, only purebloods working in the Ministry or teach at Hogwarts, the halfbloods who have joined the Dark Lord are only used for brute force, and muggleborns, regardless of age, are slaughtered on sight.
This is the world Voldemort built.
Hope you survive the experience.
