The year is 2011. It has been six years since the governments of the world admitted to the existence of the Augmented-- a new sub-species of humans with superhuman abilities, caused by genetic mutations. The source of these 'Augmentations', as the people have termed them, has yet to be discovered (or, as the more cynical will say, 'admitted to') by any government or agency involved. And yes, for better or worse, multiple governments and agencies have decided to, or been forced into, involving themselves. As with any great social debate, the Augmented 'Issue' has reached the international stage. The usual powers have drawn the expected lines; from the more permissive countries passing Civil Rights legislation, to the more traditional passing "human rights" laws to protect real humans from the 'creatures' and 'freaks' that science has supposedly inflicted on Mankind. America, with its moderate stance and decided lack of action, has received the limelight once again on the eve of multiple high-profile bills and laws being slated to roll through Congress. Issues concerning identification and registration of the Augmented, civil rights concerns, even the patent for a cure, are all slowly inching their way through the American bureaucratic machine. All the while, the two 'non-political' factions, led by the Augmented themselves, are already in the midst of cautiously (or, in some cases, anxiously) preparing for the war to come. Because no matter the decisions, there will be fallout. And no one, human or Augmented, will be left unaffected. ![[info]](https://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif){kind=small} augmented is an original character (OC) superpowers game in the vein of the X-Men, Watchmen, and other politically-driven superhero/mutant franchises. Both human and Augmented characters are welcome and encouraged to take part in the war (metaphorical and literal) over the question of what, exactly, it is to be (super)human. |

 Set in the city of Haven, a self-contained retirement community for fairy tale characters finished with their original story. It's the age old, oft asked question: what happens after happily ever after? In Haven, fairy tales and their brethren get to answer the question any way they please. At present this is something of a catch all community for fairy tale characters. Most plots will be player generated, but overarching plots can be introduced at player request. |

All good stories start with "once upon a time" and this one isn't so different. Once upon a time, Man and Dragon lived in harmony and shared the land freely. The near-immortal dragons watched generations of man cycle through their lives. They watched kingdoms rise and fall, and watched the development of villages into towns. They advised king and commoner alike. The world was at peace ... ... though peace never lasts long. There were men and women of ambition, possessing a drive to better their world. They saw the dragons as the barrier keeping civilization from advancing beyond the current way of life. One magician in particular devoted himself to devising a way to remove the dragons from the world. He failed, but his daughter took up his cause after his death. She successfully imprisoned the dragons -- and was executed for her work. Over the years, magic users of all sorts attempted to wake the dragons, but with no luck. Encouraged by the way the balance was tilting, other ambitious magic users sought to use the current state of affairs to advance their own agendas. One necromancer took it upon himself to attempt to raise an undead army to seize the throne. His plan was derailed and he was executed -- but it was enough for the King at the time to issue a decree making magic taboo. Magic users were driven underground, and those who would have been students of the magic school were forced to contend with their powers on their own. Twenty-five years after the initial ban, the new King has decided to try to reverse the state of affairs. He has reopened the magical division of the Academy and encouraged magic users to once again reveal themselves and learn the art. The question remains ... is history bound to repeat itself? I am looking for some short term lines for my celeb, to help me branch out of the same old stuff. Open to ideas. I am usually easily found on AIM most nights from 7-11 pm CST. Potentially would like to find a community to house my girl in, and have a line to take with her, but I don't expect anything long term at this moment.

In Southern California, there recently opened a new luxury apartment building. Impeccably designed, impossibly convenient, ideally located, Pax Letale is the sort of residential Shangri La where Southern Californians spend all manner of favors and years trying to secure a spot. But Pax doesn't have a waiting list, nor can a place there be bought or sold. The people who find their way to Pax Letale belong there. Every tenant of Pax is a reincarnated deity whose worshipers are by and large long dead. Once very real, these gods began to fade as science and reason dispelled the probability of their existence. Reborn as mortals, their essences remain, waiting to be awakened. Somehow, sometimes one by one, sometimes in groups or pairs, these creatures of destiny have discovered Pax, and have not been able to resist its pull. For at Pax Letale, the awakening has begun. As these gods rediscover themselves and each other, the seemingly invisible but ubiquitous management tracks each of them quite closely, and the very building itself seems to have an agenda of its own. And as the gods made humans in their own image - or humans made them in theirs - so will the the behavior of the people of Pax turn as dark as their myths. Blood, strife, sex, petty plots, torture - even murder will wind their ways into Pax Letale. A lovely place. A peculiar place. A dangerous place. Enki is the Babylonian god of water, crafts, intelligence and creation. Twin of and best friend of Ereshkigal, goddess of the Underworld, he is often seen as a positive foil to his brother Enlil, utilizing his magic and cunning for the good of others; he brings aid to deities and humans alike, serving as a rare masculine nuturer in a chaotic and often oppressively patriarchal pantheon. He will likely have connections to Tiamat, Ereshkigal, and other Sumero-Babylonian deities. Brighid is the Celtic goddess of the forge, inspiration, compassion and creativity, and a patron goddess of artists, craftsmen, and other creative types. In her mortal life, she may have connections to her parents, her siblings, or any of the Celtic pantheon. Masauwu is a Hopi deity sometimes called the Skeleton Man, Keeper of Fire, Spirit of Death, and the Master of the Fourth (present) World. He is depicted as a dark-skinned man wearing a mask; sometimes the creature beneath this mask is described as handsome, sometimes as a disfigured monster. Connections to Native American deities and gods and goddesses of death or enlightenment are likely. Don't see a tenant that interests you? Other deities and pantheons are welcome - pick one of the active pantheons in the game, or talk to a mod if there's one you don't see, and make your modern god as you see him/her/it. Holds and applications are being accepted for all available pantheons. |
