Terence was still wrapping himself in his robes when he Apparated to the hallway outside Jaden’s flat. The thick wool swirled around his ankles as he stood motionless for a heartbeat, the bulb of light in the glass fixture above him humming faintly in a way that made the short hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, knowing that light was wired to the rest of the building, in a web of volatile power that could explode without warning, leaving nothing but a smoking husk of a building and charred skeletons. This was hostile territory. As he remembered from his first visit to Jaden’s place, the landing was not visible to any of Jaden’s Muggle neighbors and no one seemed to have heard the crack of his arrival. To a Muggle, it might only sound like a door being slammed. He was sure Jaden would have recognised it, if he was awake. If he was even home.
Terence stepped up to the door and banged his balled fist on it hard. No turning back now. He was no coward. He wanted answers. Jaden had consumed his thoughts for too long. This morning, during his daily meditation in the sunroom, he had found it impossible to clear his mind. On the one hand, after three weeks of nothing from Jaden, he was ready to wash his hands of the man. How much of this ineptitude was he supposed to put up with? He could take a hint. On the other hand, he wasn’t going to give Jaden up without a fight. He wanted to know why the other wizard was ignoring him. He wanted Jaden to have the balls to tell him that he didn’t want him. On the other other hand, he didn’t want Jaden to tell him that he didn’t want him.
Which was getting to be too many hands. He was starting to feel like the Hindu goddess Kali, juggling. His hands were full, but he was left holding nothing, everything he wanted slipping through his fingers. He couldn’t find peace like that, so he had grabbed his robes and Apparated to Jaden’s flat to get some answers, and some peace, before he could change his mind. What better day to settle this than Valentine’s Day? It felt like a day for annihilation.
