"She's such a good girl. I'm proud of her too." Tim was one of the very few who knew that her daughter had shown her first signs of magic a couple months ago. She'd been ridiculously proud to know her daughter Wasn't Like Her, though also scared of what her family and her husband's family might do if they found out. She didn't understand why her brother was proud of her, though. She just sort of flushed and said nothing, because what was there to say except argue about it?
"And you, dear brother, are flattering me terribly tonight," she said adroitly as they spun out onto the floor.
