Re: Theo & Calypso
“We don’t have to.” Calypso was however instantly grateful that Theo would do such a thing for her. She knew though that it wasn’t a good option, she knew her mother would want to see Theo at the wedding if she thought he and Calypso were engaged. Calypso wanted to keep Theo away from Oya because Oya just wasn’t a nice person. She wouldn’t be able to live with herself if something happened to Theo all because he had been nice enough to play along with the image she was sending back to her mother. She didn’t want to make it any worse for Theo and meeting Oya was definitely worse.
Had her tastes changed that much? She supposed they maybe had. She still wanted to go to the ball, be seen in her pretty dress, but she sort of wished Ginny was going with her. That Ginny would don a beautiful ball gown of her own and was going with Calypso. It was that line of thinking that caused her to answer far more truthfully than she would have normally, “I’d rather be with…” And she stopped herself before she said her name, instead she rerouted her thought process. “With her. Maybe watching her practice for a game, going out for drinks, lay on the beach in Peru, I don’t know.” Calypso rolled her eyes at herself, “It’s all silly things anyway.” She said softly, looking up at Theo with an apologetic look. “I’m sorry I’m a terrible date.”
And it was as if it struck her then, her gift for Theo that was still tucked away in a pocket of her cloak. She pulled a soft velvet pouch from an inner pocket, she held it out to Theo with a proud little smile. “I got you something.” She wouldn’t say what it was for, just as he had not said what her necklace had been for. “I hope you like it.” Inside the little pouch that she held out was a little pocket watch that she had purchased for Theo.
