Hannah tutted, though the sound came out more amused than disapproving, and she shook her head slightly against his chest, thinking he was just a bit ridiculous for saying that. But she'd known him for over twenty years, and he'd always had a bit of that detached, arrogant intelligence thing going on, something she knew she was woefully ill-equipped to keep up with, though it had perhaps gotten worse as he'd gotten older.
The move startled her a little, but she went with the motion without resistance, her heart picking up a bit at the way he hovered over her, her eyes meeting his though it was too dark to make out the color of them. "I've never.... never been all that," she whispered awkwardly, her cheeks flushing, because no, she really didn't have a clue that anyone saw her that way. Not that she thought her friends had thought too poorly of her, but she'd always assumed most people just tolerated her because she was so friendly. But Ernie had thought the world of her, she remembered with a sharp pang of sadness in her chest.
As he finished, though, another spike of impulsivity rushed through her, and before she realized what she was doing, her head lifted, closing the space between them as her lips met his. Maybe it was fueled by her loneliness, but she wasn't letting her think about the why just then.
