As storms went on outside all night, Percy sat in his office at home, going over his financial figures from the campaign. He'd spent not nearly enough on adverts, and he knew that Eugenia had gobs more money than he did. Penelope had told him his message was far more appealing than Eugenia's, and he hoped that would be enough.
Percy was running on the legacy that Kingsley had built - the ideals fairness and equality, progress, structure... He hoped he was doing Kingsley proud, but he'd agreed when the Minister had let him know he'd be staying out of the race. It was only right. But it had also been a bit of an issue for him in the press - just yesterday in fact, Witch Weekly had asked him why his mentor hadn't come out in support of his bid for Minister. Percy had of course played it off as fair play - Minister Shacklebolt was busy with the running of the Wizarding government and believed in the strength of the process, not in celebrity endorsements. But the question had weighed on him, even if he'd known the truth of the answer. He was confident, at least, that he'd have Kingsley's vote, and that meant the world to him, even if it was private information.
Percy pressed his fingers to his forehead and then scrubbed them through his bright red hair. He knew he could easily go to Penelope with his worries - finances, marketing, Kingsley - but he also didn't want to worry her. Her support of his bid was invaluable to him, and it had meant the world to him when she'd whole heartedly agreed with his running, but he also knew he was potentially throwing their lives into disarray. He'd left his role at the Ministry, and most of their savings was for the campaign, and with two small children... He didn't want this to blow up in their faces. With another long exhale, he pulled the next report from his fundraising committee and began running the numbers, trying to eek out just a bit more for another radio ad.
