RP: So very bored.
Who: Romi & Theo
When: 2/7/10
Where: St. Mungo's
What: Romi is going a little bit out of her mind.
Warnings: Maybe language, knowing Romi.

Romi rolled over in her bed, on her good arm (the right one, thankfully), groaning softly. The left had been regrown over three awful days just after the blast, and her throat was getting better by the hour. Her lungs, on the other hand, seemed to be the reason she was still stuck in St. Mungo's thanks to the smoke and debris inhalation. She was bored, and doing all she could (while talking and breathing as little as possible) to convince the hospital staff she was a menace who they needed to get out of their hair.

It hadn't worked yet. If only there was a potion for healing lungs quickly. According to the Healers, they were doing what they could with spells and charms and potions, but it would still just take time. She had been here for a week and a half and she was going insane. Not even the other residents of her corner of the ward were entertainment enough.

Theo had been allowed to go home. But he was required to be here nearly every day. He wasn't healed enough yet to make physical therapy or magical therapy possible, but his healers, fellows of his, took his health very seriously.

Unlike Romi, he hadn't been able to grow an arm back. Combinations of circumstances fell completely against him, and now he would just have to learn to live with what life set against him.

He had lingered today. Strangely to some, the hospital was his second home. He'd visited his comatose sister. He'd consulted on a diagnosis case, too, and that was where he was leaving from when he came across Romilsa.

He hadn't realized that Blaise's friend was in here, though he should have since his friend had been talking about all the gift boxes and such he was sending out to people, and she'd certainly have been on that list.

"Romilda," he said in surprise, coming to a halt.

Romilda brightened slightly to see Blaise's roommate... or whatever they were this week... "Theodore," she said, matching his tone. "How many times over the years have I told you it's perfectly fine to call me Romi. Everyone else does." And by everyone she meant the Slytherins in Blaise's circle, who seemed to be the only people who made up her social life.

"How are you feeling?" She had heard his name the day she woke, she knew he'd been injured, but this was the first time she was noticing the extent. Of course, at least he was up and about. The nurse on call last night had threatened to strap her to the bed when she'd gotten up to get herself a glass of water. Something about walking three metres to the sink was apparently 'stressful' on her breathing.

His tone grew a bit more dryly amused. "As always, you'll have to tell me at least one more time," he said.

The only reason he'd been released was that Blaise had pushed so hard -- well that and his fellow healers knew he'd keep coming back.

At the question, he angled his body unconsciously to tuck his bad arm behind him as unobtrusively as possible. "As well as can be expected," he said with typical brevity. He wasn't always good with people until he got to know him.

Then he promptly plucked her chart from the end of her bed and sat on the edge of it. "Mind if I see how you are?" He asked while already flipping it open.

Romi laughed and matched his dryness, "At least you escaped the skele-grow," she wasn't one to mince words and also didn't look at Theo any differently for his injury. There was also the fact that if anyone did treat him differently for it, she and Callie would absolutely tear them apart for it. Came with the territory for the two witches.

"I'm jealous you're allowed out of bed, out of here, I'm going batty. Entertain me." She pleaded, keeping a whine out of her voice, just barely. "You probably know better than I do how I'm doing anyway, can't imagine reading my chart will tell you anymore than 'her lungs are seriously screwed at the moment."

"Rather certain they tried that when I was unconscious," he said with a careful half shrug. His whole body was still sore. "it would explain some of the nightmares. It was the nerve damage and the infection that fucked everything up."

He tended to be too blunt and honest with some things. He did not have a great bedside manner. Seemed to carry over to uncomfortable topics, and his arm was definitely uncomfortable.

"Wanted to go to the funeral to support Pandora and Persephone," he said. "That and Blaise probably blackmailed someone. You know how he is. You, however, do definitely need to be here. If you caught something out there you'd be in more than a little trouble. Besides I think you'd fall down halfway down the hall if these blood oxygen stats from the other day are accurate."

He'd propped the file on his leg and flipped through it with his off hand, fumbling slightly. "Besides I had to sign a million forms with my right hand, I don't recommend it."

"Yeah, I guess I was lucky I was totally knocked out for the first 24-hours?" She hadn't had any dreams. The next two or so days, though, gods the pain. Regrowing bones was "nasty business" as Madame Pomfrey used to say.

"Has the outside world gone back to normal yet?" She asked with some sarcasm - people wouldn't remember this, people never remembered things like this, those lost, not if it wasn't the War. "And don't you go talking nasty about my blood oxygen, it's doing the best it can and I'm fine." Years of smoking and drug use probably weren't helping Romi's recovery at all...

"Not right handed?" Romilda was indeed right-handed, which was why she'd been grateful her left arm was the one shattered.

"I was in and out, but not coherent," he said matter of factly. Apparently they'd been afraid to drug him too heavily because of his head wound.

Again that careful, pained shrug. "Normal is always questionable. Some has. Some hasn't. This hit everyone hard around here."

He looked at her over the top of the file with that oh so skeptical sharp blue eyed gaze that led to enough complaints that HR was familiar with him. "Fine is such a subjective word, and definitely not the one I'd use," he said dryly.

"No. Firmly of the sinister persuasion."

"No? Then what would you use instead? Gorgeous? Brilliant? Above all this petty physical nonsense?" She asked with a cheeky grin, finding herself feeling playful under his focus. His eyes could scramble less-capable minds and tongues.

When she laughed at his description, though, she caught herself coughing and an acute pain ripped through her ribcage. Ah, there's the rub, she thought as her faced turned a little purple as she struggled for a breath.

"Blood cells are not gorgeous or I'd have been accused of courting one by now," he replied with all the blandness he could muster. "For someone with almost no life I have a surprisingly robust rumored one."

He winced a little as she started to cough, and he had to sort out which arm to reach out with to start soothing a hand up and down her back. His touch was surprisingly gentle for someone who could be so standoffish and occasionally harsh. "Listen to me and breath when I tell you too," he said. His voice was no where near the beautiful one Blaise had but it still worked for him as he tried to guide her through a breathing exercise that should help to calm her again.

"I said I'm Fine. And Gorgeous. And Brilliant. And Above all of this." She said, when she'd finally gained her breath back, surprised by his soothing demeanor. It had been nice, listening to his voice and letting it calm her.

"And I am. All of those things. See?" She looked down her body, lying out in the bed, barely sitting up despite her assertions.

She looked up at him now, really looked at him, and said suddenly, "You know, you're pretty good at that."

He snorted faintly, a faint spark of amusement in his eyes. "Unfortunately that is not a claim I can completely endorse, Romilda, as patently you cannot force your body to be better than this." He held sympathy for her but it didn't always translate well and many took his dry, aloof, awkward demeanor as all there was out there.

"Well I will not disagree with what is fact but some things I can definitely argue with what is in that file," he told her.

He blinked at her. "Whatever are you talking about? My job?"

Romilda allowed herself a small chuckle at his reaction, not wanting to start another coughing fit. "Yes, your job. The comforting bit. I think I'm pretty well-versed in Slytherin, considering y'all constitute my only social life, and 'comforting' isn't exactly a trait I'd assign to most of you most of the time. You're good at it, tough." She cocked her head and just sort of watched him.

His eyebrows rose and he barked a laugh. "Comforting? You should talk to Human Resources, I have more complaints on my 'non comforting nature' and 'exceedingly poor bedside manner' than almost anyone around here, honestly."

Oddly enough, most of the time the kids liked him. He didn't put up with their shit, and he gave it to them straight, something most parents absolutely hated. But it was their bodies and a few exceptions aside, deserved to know what was going on.

"Maybe I prefer your brand of humour," she said, giving him a genuine smile. Honestly, talking with him now was the best she'd felt (mentally, at least) since blast.

She sobered for a moment, though, thinking of the accident. "I wonder what they're going to do with the building..." She thought out loud. Surely they wouldn't leave it demolished and destroyed. "Was Hannah alright? She's always there..." Romi didn't know the Hufflepuff well, but everyone knew the owner of the Leaky, it was just a thing they all did.

His smile was stiff and a little lopsided but there. He could still find things to smile about even after everything. Life was just going to be very hard for a while.

"Gossip says rebuilding somehow," he offered with a painful looking shrug. "Nothing certain yet as far as I know. And Hannah." If anything his expression grew even more serious. "She's alive and stable from what I heard but it's also... It's very serious. That's all I know." Well he knew a but more but some things he wouldn't talk about to almost anyone right yet.

Romilda sighed, "That's good, that they're going to rebuild" she was suddenly tired. Maybe she wasn't as "fine" as she tried to make herself out to be. Hannah's news didn't sound so good, though, and the thought weighed on her.

"I hope she gets better, she's nice," Hannah wasn't a friend of Romilda, but she was indeed nice, and the accident had to have affected the witch more than anyone else, besides maybe those killed in it.

"Will you stay with me a while?" She asked, her eyes already beginning to droop. Theo had been a surprising, bright light in her day.

He could see as her energy started fading. He usually could. It was generally when he kicked family members out of people's rooms -- another thing that earned him complaints even though it was, in his mind, another aspect of patient care.

"So do I. She's always been kind to me." Like Romilda, he didn't know Hannah particularly well, though he remembered her kindness in classes to people. She was pretty and nice. Theo wasn't one to forget when people were nice to him... since much more often they weren't. He didn't always make it easy, either.

"I'll stay for a while longer," he said after a moment of thought, and a couple of fingers pushed her back into the bed a bit. "I won't be here when you wake up, but I'll be here for a bit longer if you need something."

Romilda wasn't sure if he heard her, but the word "thanks" ghosted past her lips just before she slipped into yet another exhausted, dreamless sleep.
