Robert had always known that Silviya was a private person, so he knew it meant a lot that she was opening up to him like this, sharing these personal details and feelings... and then she let that bit about Terence's confession slip, and he went pale. Although he'd long ago accepted that she would never know his feelings while she was in a committed relationship with someone else, he felt a pang in his chest at the implication that she would feel betrayed or lied to or manipulated by his friendship if she did ever discover his true feelings for her. He stayed quiet though, listening intently, not willing to interrupt her.
Until he couldn't stay quiet any longer. "He's not the only one who's always seen you, Silviya," he admitted softly, an intensity in his gaze that couldn't be denied. Sure, they'd drifted apart after school, and he'd moved on with his life, had even nearly married before Piper broke his heart, but his feelings for Silvie had always been there, sometimes nearer the surface and other times buried deep. "But your happiness is all that matters. I should let you get back to your beau." He removed his hands from her then and took a step back, then another before finding he couldn't move any further away from her.
"Wha--" He looked already abruptly, his eyes suddenly catching the slight movement above their heads, and he groaned softly. "Mistletoe." Of all the bleeding luck! Of course this would happen now. His eyes met hers with a pained, apologetic look in them. He never would have willingly put her in this position, and he just prayed that she knew that, that she wouldn't hold it against him.
