RP: Something of note
Who: Calypso, Blaise, & Oya (NPC'd by Jasmine!!) What: First Time For Everything When: November 5th Where: Field Warnings: None
Calypso was so close she could taste it. She knew she was that close and it was why she was finding it near impossible to get anything done the last week. She had been practicing like usual, but she was finding it more than a little frustrating. In an attempt to change things up, Blaise had suggested that they try practicing someplace else. She thought he might be on to something, a change of venue might be just what she needed.
It was for that reason the siblings were out in the middle of nowhere to practice, there was nothing to distract Calypso. She was seated in the middle of the field, her legs crossed, trying to focus on meditation. She was finding her center of peace so much easier, she could actually breathe and think. Apparently a change of venue had been just what she needed.
Even though it was helping, she was still just a bit too excited. After the first failed attempt, she let out a groan as she fell back to lie out in the grass. “I don’t want to go home yet.” She called out, just in case Blaise had lost his mind for the moment and thought Calypso would give up after one try. “I want to try again in a minute, I just have to breathe. It’s right there.” The irritation at that was laced in her words, “I want to see your face when I’m bigger than you.” She mused aloud, “I’ll squish you for once.”
Blaise knew she was close. He could also sense it. He also knew that she was trying too hard. It was one of the things he could see consistently getting in her way as she practiced. Excitement, distraction, elevated heart rate and blood pressure. Eventually she could change like that... but probably not the first time.
Unless...
He smirked to himself.
"As if you'd give up so easily," he soothed from his spot. "Sit back up, little sister. And no, you will not be squishing me anytime soon." Because he was sure she'd be smaller than him. Something fluffy and ferocious, like his kitten-cat Bane.
Once her eyes were closed though, he silently rose on bare feet and circled around her, watching her regular breathing. Waiting, like a cat on the hunt, which he was.
Waiting... waiting... until he pounced, goosing her under the ribs to purposefully cause that jump in heart rate, excitement, everything, while her head was in the right space.
It wasn't common, but every now and again, an animagus early in their training could be startled into and out of their forms. It was, he thought, worth a try.
Calypso smirked, he knew her far too well. “Of course I’m not giving up so easily.” She said as she pushed herself up to her elbows before she pushed herself to sit up fully. She let out a soft sigh as she crossed her legs in a pretzel, squirming in the spot just a moment to get comfortable. She knew it was ridiculous, she was literally just stalling for time.
Her eyes slipped closed as she focused, she slipped into that sweet spot. The happy place that she had found months before. Everything was dropping away, she was focusing on that energy she could feel.
She focused on that feeling of fur just under her skin, brushing against her insides as she focused on seeing her cat in her mind’s eye. It was like a long dark tunnel, she could see those glowing eyes peeking at her from the dark. She could feel her cat watching her, no wait she was definitely stalking her. Calypso felt as she started to rush up that long dark tunnel, though she still couldn’t see the shape.
Then she felt it, this had been the part where she always screwed up. She got too excited and everything stopped, this time though she wasn’t able to stop it. What prevented that excitement was Blaise, she hadn’t heard him stalking up behind her. She hadn’t heard him until it was too late and he had pounced on her. It was a quick moment, something she would never be able to describe. Her inner cat had rushed up on her, that overwhelming feeling of fur, claws and teeth at the same instant that Blaise had pounced.
In the grass where she had been was now a large spotted wildcat that was barely larger than the large cat Bast, that roamed The Beastiery. Rounded little ears, bright eyes, and a long tail that swooshed as Calypso felt the weight of it. It was different, and she could tell she was definitely smaller than Blaise in cat form. As it was, she was having to look up a long line of his body to see him.
Eyes narrowed then though, a playful thing though it likely didn’t look it just then. She didn’t have control yet. She let out a little screech, her displeasure at definitely being smaller. The look was gone almost as soon as it had appeared though, she had done it! She had finally been able to accomplish what she had spent the past almost six months training for! The happy cat started to purr then, surprising even herself and even scaring herself. The noise was so loud! She quickly rushed to Blaise’s feet, rubbing against his ankles and pressing close.
He timed it perfectly. Of course he had, but it was a double pleasure to get such instant results as she jumped up and transformed seamlessly into a little wildcat of some sort, squalling just like one as well. He just gave her a look when she gave him a look. Oh, he wouldn't underestimate how dangerous she was in this form, small or not... but then he didn't underestimate her in her normal form either.
"Look at you!" he praised as she started to rub against him, and he crouched down to scratch her ears and then gather her up in his arms. "Aren't you a pretty kitty?"
It wasn't actually patronizing at all. It was praise well deserved and she should know that she was stunning as well. Her pattern of spots was gorgeous and he was going to have to look up precisely what species she was, as he didn't instantly recognize it.
The margay cat at Blaise's feet let out another noise, Calypso loved the praise. She didn't think he was being patronizing at all, she called him a pretty kitty all the time. It was a compliment, she was sure of it. She lifted her head up enough to rub her chin against his jaw a moment, an almost scent marking motion. She was very happy just then, her purring growing louder with the pets and praise. She had finally accomplished what she had worked so hard for. While she was upset that she wasn't bigger than Blaise, she loved her fur already.
It was then her ears twitched, hearing a noise in the distance. Rounded little ears turned towards the noise, while large eyes lifted to look at the man that held her in arms. There was a questioning look to her gaze, while her tail flicked in anticipation. She assumed it was all part of the new senses she was gathering. She could hear so much better like this, her sight had improved as well. The feeling of her tail just moving like that was different too, she was trying to figure out how to stop it from swooshing like it was.
Deft, clever fingers stroked her fur and found the perfect spots to give her a scratch. As Bane would attest, he was very good at it. His cat loved to have a good petting, when she was in the mood. She tended to be the independent sort but when she wanted love, she wanted it now.
"Hear something, huh? Yes, your senses will be heightened now. You'll have to learn to identify some things by different sounds and by scent now," he told her. They'd practice at it. It was easier when you had someone to help you out like that.
She suddenly had no control over her own body, as a loud purring noise left her. He was finding the best spots, this was better than any massage she had gotten over the years. The noise grew louder each time she tried to silence herself, it was so loud in her own ears. It was drowning out the noise of anything going on around them, the noise that had caught her attention was forgotten. Her eyes slipped closed, leaning her body into his touch as his hand worked over her little form.
It made sense though, everything was heightened with the new senses. She hoped she would get the hang of it all soon, right now though it all felt just a bit overwhelming. She felt content in his arms though, her chest rumbling with the purr that was escaping her. She had stopped fighting it for now, as she relaxed into his arms. She had finally accomplished it though, that was what mattered. She was finally an animagi, she mused with excitement. That elation felt fantastic, a rush of endorphins that she hadn't felt in ages. She was going to want to chase that high again once it wore off in a few weeks.
She was very soft and very lovely. Not that he'd expected any less, really. He'd suspected she would be a cat, and he was right. Their personalities were similar enough in those respects, and he was definitely one of those who posited that your animagus was an outward representation of what you were inside. Not everyone agreed.
"Good job, my darling," he murmured to her, pressing a quick kiss between her ears, proud of her.
Then that was when he heard a noise, a familiar low laughing chuckle. He felt the familiar ice creep through him even though it was a warm sound. "Hello, mother," he said flatly, arms curling protectively around his sister.
Calypso had been purring so loud as he praised her, though as soon as she heard that familiar noise, her entire demeanour changed. Those ears flattened, as much as those rounded little things would, and a hiss left her. She didn't move though, she didn't make to swipe towards the woman, nothing. That alone amazed her, she hadn't felt her anger so overwhelming since she was small. She supposed it really was a good thing that she was just the size of an oversized housecat. She likely would have tried to kill her own mother, which she knew would have ended badly. Her mother wouldn't have let her get close enough.
Instead she went very still, a low rumbling growl slipping from her, with no signs of stopping.
If he'd had ears and a tail, both those would show his agitation. As it was, his demeanor went completely still and bland, though if Calypso listened, his heart had started pounding in anxiety and agitation.
"Hello, children. I see you finally managed something of note, Calypso. How wonderful. I should take you out to celebrate if you can remember how to change back," the witch said in that wickedly vibrant voice of hers that Blaise had inherited, the nuances of tone deep and subtle. "And you, Blaise! Look at you, you've taught her something good for a change too! Well, those who can't do, teach, it seems."
"So lovely to see you again, mother. Who knew it would be in the middle of no where," he replied as blandly as possible, his hand still slowly stroking Callie.
