It's baby's first day
Who: Mandy, Mandy's BFF (NPCed by the wonderful Kandie!), and possibly Hyperion
When: Sept 1 (backdated 1 day sooorrrrrry)
What: Mandy's lifts someone's phone for an emergency messaging
Warnings:
Public/Private:
Mandy had been slowly dying all morning. She'd not realized how many people would be out today to send their kids off to King's Cross and to Hogwarts, and so her opportunity to pick pocket a phone in time to message her bestie was slowly dying an excruciating death.
Then she saw it. She saw Hyperion messaging someone as she as fetching something across the hall. She saw him set his phone down as someone came up with a question. Saw him go off... and leave it there unattended.
With only a quick, darting glance all around, the woman darted over to his desk and grabbed it up before the screen could go dark and it locked up on her.
With a very vigilant eye on the door, her fingers started to dance wildly over the keyboard, typing in the number she'd memorized long ago and that her BFF would never under any circumstance change.

Hastily Mandy deleted all those texts, though there was enough code in them and absolutely no names so even if he found out, he couldn't... pin anything exact on her. It was worth the risk for her good behavior points right now, though. She was starting to get to go out for short periods with only her tracking markers on her. She'd had to let him know she was thinking about him today of all days. Her heart absolutely ached in her chest. If she thought it possible at all, she'd have found a way to escape today and damn the consequences.
After she deleted, she hastily went back to the barely started text, eyes skimming up and down the past few and she smirked to herself for half a second. Oh, so hot auror man had a girl, huh? That would explain one reason she couldn't get him to look twice at her. Part of her felt jealous, wistful. She rather liked the man, genuinely, to be honest. Was attracted to him, too. And it felt sometimes she no longer had anything good in her life, since she couldn't see "Buffy" or baby boy.
To try to lift her spirits, she finished out his text in a way that sounded pretty much just like him, and was probably on the same train of thought he'd been having.
That done, she pressed send, blacked the screen of the phone, and wiped the screen off, setting it back precisely where she found it. She could hear his voice down the line of cubicles a bit, like she had a moment before when she said goodbye, but she knew the auror at the end always spoke to him and it took a couple of minutes. A glance, then she slipped out again and sashayed her way on down the hall.
Sashayed on down as if nothing int he world was wrong, at least until she got to the loo and into a stall, where she proceeded to cry as if heartbroken while she desperately hoped no one came in since she didn't have a wand to silence it. Luckily for her she'd had a lot of practice at this particular skill, crying almost silently.
Her baby boy. Their baby boy. Eleven and he'd be at King's Cross to get on the train any moment for his first year at Hogwarts. And she wasn't there. Even though she was only Aunty, she had always thought she would be there.
But she wasn't there, and it hurt. In a moment she'd have to get herself under control. In a moment, she'd have to go back out as if nothing were wrong, as if she were any other childless woman in the world. Her happy face, so long perfected, would be on.
But inside she still hurt like any mother whose baby boy had just gone off for his first day of school without her.
