Who: Ginny and NPCs from the Harpies
When: Monday, August 14 [Backdated]
Where: The Harpies training offices or whatever
What: A routine pre-season physical does not go as expected
Warnings: Emotions
After so many years on the team, the pre-season physical was routine and had never really been a concern for Ginny. Now, however, with how she'd been feeling for the last month or so, she'd gone into it with some minor trepidation. Everything was going well, her results proving what she already knew--that she was healthy and fit for flying--until they did the pregnancy test, also a standard part of the process.
Only this time, the results were not negative as they had always been in the past. She knew even before the healer said anything about it, had done the test enough times to know what a negative result looked like, but that was not negative. How?! How the bleeding hell had she gotten pregnant? Okay, obviously she knew how, but honestly, how had her birth control failed?
"Oh fuck," she breathed, paling, completely ignoring the spiel the healer was giving her. She couldn't be pregnant, damn it! She couldn't lose her spot on the team, couldn't miss any games, couldn't give up her career for something she'd never wanted!
"I'm going to be sick," she warned the healer before darting to a nearby bin. There hadn't been much in her stomach, but what little there was came out then, and she felt her eyes burning with tears.
To her credit, the healer was kind and patient with her, cleaning up the mess with a wave of her wand and giving Ginny some crackers to munch on. She also unlocked a closet and pulled out a couple of potions, giving them to the redhead as well. Ginny drank them without arguing, without thinking. Her mind was filled with static, and she was struggling to process the fact that there was, apparently, a teeny tiny human growing in her body right now.
It was bloody terrifying.
She wanted to cry; she almost did when the manager of the team was summoned and told her she wouldn't be allowed to practice or play until she was no longer pregnant, whatever her choice on the matter was, but that she wasn't going to lose her seniority, that she was a valued member of the team, that they'd gone through this many times before and would many times still.
Ginny was still numb and speechless when she was sent home, where she curled up on her bed still fully clothed and finally let the tears come.
