Who: Luna & Rolf When: June 3rd (backdated) Where: The Beastiery What: Babies Warnings: Conspiracy
Luna hadn’t gone home first, she had wanted to make one stop first before she got home. She had to visit Rolf, thankfully she had gotten home just as he was opening his shop Tuesday morning. He had just unlocked the door when the blonde bustled in and turned the lock behind herself. “Don’t open just yet, I have gifts.” Luna knew that one of the gifts had to stay very, very, secret and quiet. She didn’t need someone just walking in on them with it, while she knew it was rude to close his business for this… She hoped he wouldn’t mind.
The tall blonde was still dressed from her trip in a pair of brown capri pants that hugged her slender frame, with a buttoned down plaid tshirt that was open and tied under her breasts, over a bright pink tank. Her blonde locks were up in a messy sort of updo that was really more just falling out at this point but there were little animal pins in her hair. One was a little lion that was roaring from deep in her blonde locks when she moved her head just right. On her back was the large pack she had bought from Dora ages ago. It was magically extended and held everything she had needed for her trip, though it looked like a dusty old pack.
Without really waiting for Rolf to give any sort of okay, she had swung her pack from her shoulders and set it carefully at her feet. “I actually am hoping you won’t be upset with me for bringing a second surprise back, this one is not secret though. This one is above the board, I ran across the smugglers I was using as a cover so that I could be there. I couldn’t believe my luck! They had two eggs! With the school opening and everything going on, I can only handle one and so I had been hoping that maybe you’d take the other one?” She opened the top flap of her pack, though she had not pulled anything out just yet. She realized she needed to wait for his permission.
"Luna!" he exclaimed, tone warm and welcoming and not minding in the least as she took over the shop temporarily. He wouldn't have paid attention to anyone else except Rose if they came in right now anyway. "Welcome home!"
He did interrupt her momentarily to wrap her up in a hug of welcome. He had missed her, though he'd known she was perfectly fine on her trip and had kept up with her via letter along the way.
"You didn't have to bring me any gifts though you know that," he told her, and he leaned up against the counter, eyes wide in interest as he watched her open her pack. "But don't hold me in suspense now that I know there's presents! What's in there?"
Luna had hugged him back tightly, she had missed being home so much. Sure, she had the same friends when she had left the first time but she had left that first time in a very bad place. It had been just after the war, she had been in a bad place mentally and had needed to get away.
“I know that I didn’t need to bring you any gifts but I just… I had to. You’ll see why.” Luna started to rifle through her pack and then produced a large purple sack that was laced with gold and when she set it down it made a soft clink noise. The next thing she set net to her was a large black cage that held the tiny little creature that she had gone searching for in secret, it’s large pink eyes blinking at Rolf from the cage, though it seemed very docile. “I found our friend, you’re sure that it’s okay if he lives here with you?”
Luna got up from the ground then, lifting the bag in one hand and cage in the other, making her way over to the counter. She set both down on top of it, opening the bag then to reveal the two occamy eggs. “There were actual smugglers that I was tracking as well as our friend, we were able to catch them and these two guys… Well, they need a good home. I was able to get the rest of the animals back to their homes but their mother passed and…” She bit her lower lip, finally looking at Rolf and not at the eggs. “I am able to take care of one, I had hoped you might be able to take care of the sibling?”
Rolf leaned down, putting his face on the level with the creature. After a glance at her, he reached out to hold a finger out to the creature. Little fingers, not unlike those of a sloth or a monkey or something, closed around his finger lightly, and he smiled at the fluffy thing. It was certainly odd looking, but they had figured it would, and the pink eyes would certainly look scary in the dark,w hich would explain the bad rumors about it.
He didn't think it was at all harmful though. Except for being used by people, if it truly had the powers they suspected it might. Identifying those with magic. A dangerous thing.
"Of course. I can keep it safe here, especially up stairs, and Bast won't let anyone mess with it," he said. Bast was the best alarm system in the world, even better than wards.
He oooohed at the sight of the eggs. "You know my grandfather raised more than one nest of these in his life," he said quietly as he reached out to gently touch an egg. "They can be unpredictable at times, but they're so beautiful." He loved them, had always loved the stories his grandfather told him. Newt always called them, fondly, tempests in a teapot.
Luna went still as she watched Rolf with their newest little friend, her smile growing the second she saw the creature reach out for him. “I knew it’d be a good fit.” She murmured, a sigh of relief leaving her. While she had been so sure that Rolf would be perfect with their new friend, she had also been a bit worried that the creature would react badly at first to Rolf. He was such a gentle creature himself though that she had been sure they would make fast friends.
“Just be sure to let Bast know that it is not a snack.” Luna teased, knowing full well that Bast would never. She was one of the best with all of the babies in the shop. Still, Luna couldn’t help but poke a little at it. “Where is she?” She asked then, realizing she had not seen her feline friend yet.
His noise at the eggs had her grinning, his words just made her smile brighter. “I take that to mean that you’ll definitely take one of the babies. Which would you like?” It made no difference to her, whatever was inside would be unique either way. She was just so very glad that she had been right in just assuming that Rolf would help her take care of them.
It was very rare for an animal to react adversely to Rolf. Just like most people honestly had a hard time disliking him. He had been worried and his confidence was probablt why it worked as well as it did.
"I think she and Rose are sharing a sunbeam," he said with wry fondness. That was where they'd been when he'd come down for work at least. It had been a sight that made it hard for him to leave the flat, wanting to join his Rose instead. "Though if she'd known you were coming I'm sure she'd have pried herself away from it to say hi." Luna was a person Bast definitely.
"Oh definitely, though I might let grandfather help with it. It's been ages since he had a nest to coo over." He picked up one of the eggs, making a cooing noise himself as he brought it up to his face. "Are you sure you don't want siblings?"
Luna grinned a bit wider when she heard that fondness, “It sounds like they are having a fantastic morning, let them both know I came by and said hello.” She really needed to make time to have them all over sometime soon for dinner or something, she was sure that Dom would be up for it. She would have to find time once the school opened. “We’ll do dinner soon, all of us. I’ll even invite my new beau.”
“I’m positive that I don’t want siblings, I can’t exactly handle them right now. I was thinking that maybe they would still be siblings in a way, since I assume we could bring them together often. Make sure that they bond? Maybe talk to your grandfather. See what he thinks might be best?” Luna was more than willing to give her up occamy if it was what was best for the little critter. She was always more concerned about the animal and not so much about her own wants. Sure, she would love taking care of her own occamy but she wasn’t selfish enough to take a creature like that.
"I shall," he said with another grin. Rose would be glad to hear Luna was safely back. They'd all thought of their friend while she was away. He'd rather wished he'd sent Rosie with her -- after all, Rose knew her way around an expedition, no matter what sort it actually was.
"New beau, hm? Look at you, beautiful, being all social and everything," he said with a playful waggle of his eyebrows. "Have your people talk to my people."
"Oh yes. They can be best playmates. And hopefully not get out to create any mayhem," he said, lips twitching. He didn't plan on letting that happen. "But I'll definitely talk to him and get his advice."
Luna gave a laugh, shaking her head as she reached a hand up to rub over her egg. “I’m not being social at all, you’re giving me far too much credit. I’m looking forward to spending some time with him though getting to know him. He’s very sweet, I don’t know if you know him or not? His name is Dom Applebaum?” She thought, she wasn’t entirely sure of his last name. “I’ll be sure to give Rose a call.” If her phone would work right, if not… Well she would just send an owl.
“Thank you, really. Give him my love when you speak to him, I’ll definitely appreciate any help he can give. The only thing I could figure out was that they weren’t going to hatch soon, we have a little bit.” Long enough she figured for the pair to sort out just how best to go about handling them. She knew she’d need to find a home for her little occamy so that it wouldn’t grow to giant proportions.
"Ah, guy who works at the Hogs head sometimes?" he asked, vaguely recalling the older man. Hufflepuff too, he recalled slightly, but far before his time. Well, whatever made Luna happy! And it sounded pretty new anyway. "I recognize the name, at least. But definitely bring him around sometime, we'd love to meet him."
"I will. He's getting out more again now that summer is coming around, so you should come by sometime when he's around." His grandfather was old even by wizarding standards; his health wasn't always great. But it wasn't so bad as that Rolf was worried he'd lose the old man any time soon either.
Luna’s head bobbed in a nod, her smile growing. “That’s the one. I think you’d like him. I’ll be sure to call your people.” She told him with a playful wink, laughing as she moved to go about collecting her egg back into the sack that she had originally had it inside of. “Are you sure that you’re okay?” She asked curiously, looking over at Rolf then. “I feel bad that I’m just dumping these all on you.” Though he had known where she was going and why. “I promise, I’ll be back soon because I want to test my theory before I take it with Dora to her neighbor… Or, old neighbor.”
“Do you think he might be interested in seeing our new friend?” She asked curiously, grinning a bit wider. She wondered if she could talk to him about it, that would be fun. She wanted his opinions, he was definitely someone she looked up to. She had kept his book with her the entire time she had been gone on her expedition.
Luna gave a glance at the clock and gave a soft sigh, “I think I have to go home finally.” She was trying to stifle a yawn, though it was peeking through as she reached a hand up to rub her eye. “I’m sorry, I’m exhausted. You were my first stop. I still have to message Dora, I was thinking I’d call her.” Her phone didn’t seem so possessed now that she was back in London. She had actually missed using it all the time.
"Bast will do her best to schedule an appointment," he deadpanned, the corners of his lips twitching. He sobered and shook his head then. "No, no worries, Luna. I've got this, it's fine." He'd take good care of the critter for her, and he'd help her test the thing before she went out with it.
"He might be! You know him, always interested in a new creature or one that supposedly doesn't exist." He'd always been more positive about those than much of the magizoologist world.
He came back around the counter to swoop Luna up in a hug. "Go home. Get some sleep. And let me know if I can do anything in the meantime. I'll catch you later, all right?"
