He might have been looking down, but Gen wasn't stupid, she could see the smile in his posture even if she couldn't see his face just then. But she was determined not to look too deeply at it, because that would probably result in her doing something stupid, like running away from him or getting closer to him, and neither of those options would do. No, she just needed to play it cool.
She watched as Addi squeezed Coop back and then backed off, shooting Gen a thumb's up and wink behind his back that had her sighing again. But then Coop's arm was looped through hers, and they were off, and she had only him to fix her attention on.
"Thank you," she said at the compliment, though then he followed it up with that question, and she would swear that her cheeks weren't even the faintest bit pink. Nope, not at all. "Oh, umm, no, she didn't. It just felt very summery, appropriate for a night like tonight." She had no reason to be defensive. She hadn't worn it for him, after all. "How did your meeting go?" She wanted to ask if he was really in negotiations with the Magpies, but she wasn't sure that was something they should deal with just yet.
Coop wanted to poke fun at Gen, tease her for giving him an explanation for why she had picked the dress. He wanted to poke at it, tease her that maybe she had chosen it for him. He didn’t want to let her think too much on just why she had chosen the dress, so instead he just nodded his head. “It’s very appropriate for a night like tonight.” He meant it, though not for the summery feel to it. He flashed her that smile then, which likely gave away the fact that he had feelings there were other reasons she had worn it.
“Uh, it went?” Coop gave an easy shrug, as if it didn’t matter one way or another which way things fell. “I’ll know in a bit. I’ve got a few more meetings the next few weeks, so I’ll know farther into the summer.” He had no other meetings really, he needed to just prove to the Magpies that he wasn’t trying to get on the team for the woman next to him. If he were truly honest, there was a bit of it that had everything to do with Gen, there was a larger part however that had to do with the fact Fin was one of the best coaches in the league, as well as it being Coop’s team. He still saw it as his team, even after all this time.
As the pair walked up to the point where he could apparate, he didn’t just apparate. He stood there a moment, watching her. This was the moment he had been waiting for all night, he was trying to figure out if it was even an appropriate time to. He felt his nerves in his stomach twist and he went for it. “You wouldn’t want to come back to my hotel for some candy and mogwai, would you?” He gave her that smile then, the slightly crooked goofy smile that she had always been able to pull from him anytime they were together. He just hoped she caught the joke, that he was in fact joking and didn’t go into a panic otherwise he was sure his idea wasn’t going to work. “Or, you know... A hug?”
