Even with the kiss to ber cheek, the promise of herbal tea and a lie down, Hannah was nervous. She couldn't help it. It was nothing Ernie had done either - he was always so wonderful, she questioned how she even deserved him sometimes. It was her head, her condition, that always jumped to that place where he would be upset, even though she knew he wouldn't be. There was always that tiny voice emphasizing that nonexistent scenario even before she'd had a chance to tell him anything.
"I've skipped, love." She just came out and said it. Taking a deep breath, she'd looked him in the eyes and elaborated. "But...I'm not pregnant either." That was when her heart started thudding in her ears. Would he be happy, disappointed? She'd waited as long as she could for her cycle to show up before telling him, before taking several tests the day before to make sure. She wouldn't ever keep something like this from Ernie. If she had been pregnant, he would've been told within minutes.
