Nora heard someone arrive, but she didn't even bother to move. She had been laying in bed, drifting somewhere between consciousness and sleep since they had arrived back home the previous afternoon. It was still hard to process how everything had gone from so hopeful and happy, to so empty and awful. She knew she shouldn't be like this, and she knew it was hurting Alec, which was the last thing on earth she wanted, but she couldn't bring herself out of it. Everything hurt. Everything. And she didn't just mean physically. This was even worse than Roger erasing her from his life, and that was truly saying something.
When she heard Dora's voice, part of her wanted to scream at Alec. But her rational side knew he was just trying to help even though she didn't want it.
Not answering, she pulled her knees closer to her chest and closed her eyes, not even turning to look when her best friend walked in. She just didn't have the energy. Instead her eyes stared blankly at the opposite wall, her hair unkempt and wearing nothing but an oversized shirt under the covers. Maybe if she didn't respond, she'd go away.
