“Good morning!” He called back, chuckling when she knew his name and nodded his head. He had still not exactly stepped into the bakery. He didn’t want to be in the way. Space was precious in any kitchen, he also knew that prep time and things were precious. He was breaking so many rules by bothering her just now and yet he couldn’t seem to help it.
“I am, and I am fully aware that you’re extremely busy now and this is likely the worst possible moment for me to happen to run into you. You need me to scram?” He motioned behind himself. He didn’t want to be a pest, he wanted to be nosey. He wanted to learn more about the business below him, he was intrigued by the pastries. He’d picked up a few from the cooler outback now and again, they were delicious. Better than most anything he’d had before. He knew though that she was busy, he didn’t need to be clogging her time by asking ridiculous questions and just getting in the way.
He shifted nervously to straighten up so he wasn’t leaning on the door jam anymore. He wouldn’t get in the way if he could avoid it. He got the urge then to ask if she needed to help, though it wasn’t exactly his field. His poker face really was horrible, he just hoped she couldn’t tell he was thinking of asking something stupid. He was sure it was stupid, you shouldn’t nose around your landlord’s shop like this. He tried to stop his thoughts there, focusing on Melinda and working on positive thoughts. Alec had gotten through to him, at least a little.
