Who: Rolf and Etta Scamander
What: Etta has come home for a bit!
Where: The flat above The Bestiary
When: The very early hours of Monday, May 15.
Warnings: Potentially language? But thats it.

Etta loved travelling, there was no doubt about it, she’d grown up jetsetting all over the world. What she hated was portkeys. Direct portkeys were expensive and hard to come by, and as an intern, Etta didn’t make as much money as she would have liked… which is why she was on her third portkey that day. It was tiring, sometimes having hours between portkeys, but not really wanting to travel too far lest she get distracted and miss it.

After a long day of bouncing all over Europe, she landed in a place that was unmistakably London from the smells and the sounds and the towering, cramped buildings that loomed over heard. The city always felt so claustrophobic, compared to the deserts and fields and unknown expanses that Etta had experienced, but she found that she loved it regardless. It was the only place she’d ever called home, the only place she ever consistently returned to. Honestly, she’d missed the sense of home in Egypt. The lack of family dinners, or seeing her siblings, even when they traveled, they were often together, but in Egypt she’d been the only Scamander, and it had been strange… not that she hadn’t loved the people she’d come to work with, but her family were important to her. Ultimately, it was that reason she took the job at the Ministry, it was just closer to all the important people she cared about.

It had been close to two in the morning by the time her final portkey had landed. She hadn’t properly accounted for time differences, and knew that her brother (the person whom she’d wanted to see first) would be dead asleep by the hour. Any normal person would have given into the urge to rent a room for the night and catch up on sleep until some more reasonable hour, but not Etta. She’d come, in part, as a surprise and she was going to surprise him fully… by sneaking into his house.

It wasn’t particularly hard, Etta knew The Bestiary well, as it had been her grandfathers and the flat on top was just as familiar. Plus, as a cursebreaker, Etta was no stranger to getting around wards, and getting into places that she might not be wanted. She grinned, and a few spells later was climbing through the front window of Rolf’s livingroom. She thought about waking him up, but thought better of it. Instead, she pulled out a small throw blanket from her backpack, and kicked her dirty shoes off by the door. Her brothers flat had always been welcoming to her, and so she had no problems making herself at home, sprawling out on his couch and sleeping, for him to discover the next morning when he woke.

If it had been anyone but blood, the wards probably would have been a lot nastier despite her skills -- after all, his Rosey girl was quite good at them. But as it stood, they did give way to her.

What she probably should have expected was to have Bast crawl on top of her chest, her face just above Etta's and staring at her unflinchingly. Bast had been his familiar since after he left Hogwarts, raised from a tiny, half drowned kitten with a bag of her siblings, but she'd been the one who chose to stay. She was a picky, choosey beast, alarmingly smart to a degree Rolf generally refered to her as a person. She loved Rose and had a few other people she liked, Etta among them, even though it had been a while since they'd seen each other.

Then there was Ant, too, who would discover her as soon as the large dog awoke. Not that they called him a dog. He was a wriggle and always would be. Even if he weighed far more than Rose.

“Good morning, beautiful,” Etta greeted the cat, still half asleep, as her hand rose to pet the sizable cat behind the ear as way of greeting. She might not work with animals, but she still loved them, it was hard to be a Scamander and not appreciate them. She let out an audible ‘oof’ when Ant attempted to join them on the couch however. She gave them both enthusiastic attention though, despite her few hours of sleep, and attempted to climb out from under them.

“Someone really ought to tell Rolf that it’s time to wake up so he can make his favorite sister breakfast or something.” She said, talking to the animals, but loud enough that Rolf should have been able to hear it if he were awake. Carefully, Etta untangled from the animals, and stretched, before making her way towards Rolfs kitchen.

Bast mrowed at her and then purred approvingly as she was given her just due by being petted right away, without even a reminder bop to the nose. She didn't protest as Ant tried to join them, simply shifting her weight as the process went on so she wasn't dislodged.

"Rolf is already aware that someone is camped out on his couch," her brother said from the doorway, hip propped on the corner. He'd dug up sleep pants and a shirt to put on in to be appropriate in front of his sister once he'd realized that strange fizzy feeling in the wards meant something and then a peek told him what it meant. It made sense he'd not been alarmed awake or anything since it was Etta and Etta was always welcome.

"What are you doing here, squirt? You should have told me you were coming in," he said, but he was grinning as he said it, moving to swoop her up in a very enthusiastic, very Rolf sort of hug.

Etta laughed good-naturedly at the enthusiastic hug, giving one of her own to match. It had been a very long time since she'd seen her brother in person, and owls weren't the same regardless of how consistently they wrote.

"Birthday surprise?" Etta shrugged jokingly. It had been her birthday a few weeks passed, but honestly, Etta just loved surprises and showing up unannounced and all the chaos and spontaneity that came with it.

Etta stepped back from her brother and grinned, "I was offered a job here! Which is great, cause I mean, I sort of missed being around, but I don't exactly have a place to stay, so I was hoping I could set up camp on the couch for a week maybe? Until I could find my own place of course, which probably wont take terribly wrong, but I don't exactly have a lot of start up cash because being an intern isn't exactly the greatest pay, but I'm here now and I'm not an intern anymore! So, I mean, yay!"

"Well it's about time, you're totally late," he joked back. "Should totally look into how you owl your presents here, darling. Might need to choose a different owl." He couldn't help but tease her; she was his sister! And he'd missed her very much.

"Oh congrats, little sister! I'm proud of you." And he immediately and automatically was. He knew how hard she'd worked for a lot of it. He felt a little pang for Rose, who had just lost her job there... and knew that the goblins were probably filling some slots with cheap new blood, though they were taking a definite loss with Rose's experience.

"You can even have the guest room," he told Etta. "It's empty again now, we had someone staing for a few weeks but he's found himself a place. I'm sure Rose won't mind." Though he doubted she'd be pleased to hear that Etta had work when she didn't. But Rose was kind hearted and wouldn't take it out on her.

"This was the cheapest, though least efficient, owl I can afford. Gotta pinch all the galleons, I can. Looking for a flat after all." Etta laughed at him just as easily.

Alouetta beamed as her brother mentioned how proud he was. She was awfully proud too, of course, but it meant more when Rolf said it. "You're the first one I've told, I haven't told anyone else that I'm moving back. I thought this was more fun than an owl."

"It'll just be until I get my own, I promise." Etta said with a definite nod.

[ack this somehow got lost in my inbox, sorry!!!!]

"Well, yes, in person is always better than owl. We should go out tonight to celebrate. Maybe at V-bar?" Or possibly somewhere else, it all depended on what she wanted and all.

"I'm not worried. It's not like we don't have space around here, after all. So long as you don't mind the animals it's all good." And she wouldn't mind them, she'd grown up with them and while they weren't her passion the way they were his, she did enjoy them.

Etta beamed at the idea of going out, even as tired as she was from traveling into the wee hours of the morning, she would never miss the opportunity to be around people and feel the excitement of the crowd. “I’d love to! I need to meet some people round here! Think Rose will want to go too?”

Alouetta smiled. “Still, I appreciate it. Cause I mean, you don’t really have to. And you know full well that I don’t mind the animals.”

"She might! If she's not picking up a shift at the bar. I don't think she is tonight though. So you can rest up some today and we can go out tonight, if you'd like." He started puttering around the kitchen, gathering everything he needed to make them breakfast. He ws a pretty good cook these days, though he'd never been awful.

"Of course I do, you're my baby sister," he said, teasing her over his shoulder again as he sarted to mix things up. "But seriously, stay as long as you need, it'll be fine. We have the room, and you don' want to get a crappy flat just because you're in a rush."
