“Ugh, you are not wearing that!” Addi announced when Genevieve pulled a pink top out of the closet.
“Why not?” Gen asked. “It’s cute and fun.”
Addi rolled her eyes and crossed to her sister, grabbing the top out of her hands and going to put it back in her closet. “One, you wore it on Easter. To Quin’s. Don’t get me wrong, I love Quin too, but she’s not the kind of person you wear sexy stuff around, and so this is definitely not sexy enough. And two, you have to wear something that’s going to make Oliver Wood’s jaw drop.”
Gen couldn’t help giving her a bit of a look. “Oh please, there’s no reason to do all that.” Though she could admit that Addi was right about Quin. Which just reminded her that she really wanted to take Quin shopping for something risque as a housewarming gift… for Lance. And yes, she was intentionally not focusing on the Oliver Wood bit of that.
“Don’t act like you don’t want him to shove you against a wall and have his wicked way with you,” she said knowingly.
“Oh my god, Adelaide. He has a girlfriend.” Even if she did suspect that it could have happened if she’d gone for that drink with him the other night. She’d been smart enough not to tell her sister about those messages.
“Must not be serious if he was flirting with you,” Addi’s voice called from the closet where she was fishing through the rack of dresses. She didn’t miss that her sister didn’t deny that she wanted it.
Gen rolled her eyes and went to lean against the door frame. “He wasn’t really flirting with me, Ad. He was trying to get me flustered and off my game for the match. And he’s not the first to try it, either.” Playing professionally for as long as she had, she’d experienced all sorts of dirty and flirty tactics to try to distract her during a game. Fortunately, she was far too competitive to not give her all on the pitch.
Addi turned and tilted her head at her, raising a brow in disbelief. “Oh please, if he wasn’t flirting with you, then why did he ask you to meet him for a drink after the game?”
“He didn’t. He just said ‘sometime.’ I’m the one that set it for after the game.”
“See! That just proves my point. He wants to see you again.” She turned back to the rack and then let out a whoop of joy. “This is it! You have to wear this!” She pulled the red dress out and held it up for Gen to see.
Gen’s eyes went a little wide. She wasn’t a prude by any means, and she’d worn that dress more than once, but not to something like this. “Oh god, I’m not going clubbing!”
“You’re wearing it,” Addi retorted stubbornly, shoving the dress at her sister and pushing her away from the closet so she wouldn’t get any ideas about switching it out for something else. Oh, she knew her sister could easily use magic to choose something else, but Genevieve had always been considerate in not flaunting her magical advantage, so she knew she would win this battle.
“You realize I won’t be able to climb on tables and I’ll have to be careful when dancing, right? You’re going to be limiting my fun, not increasing it,” she accused.
Addi smirked at that, shaking her head. “Not if Oliver follows through.”
“He has a girlfriend!” And she did have to keep saying it, because being the other woman was not something she was interested in doing.
“It doesn’t matter how much you say it, he still wants you.”
“You’re basing that on one conversation you weren’t even there for.” Not that she disliked the thought that Oliver Wood might desire her, but she wasn’t holding her breath. Flirting wasn’t always a sign of desire, as she well knew. She was a naturally flirtatious person, but that didn’t mean she wanted to bang everyone she flirted with.
“Whatever. Just wear the damn dress. And if Oliver doesn’t whisk you away to have his wicked way with you, then I’m sure there will be other guys there that will be more than happy to do the honors.”
Genevieve couldn’t help laughing, shaking her head at her sister. “You’re not wrong about that.” She sighed then and crossed to her dresser, opening the drawer to find a pair of knickers.
“What are you doing? You can’t wear knickers with that dress!” Addi sounded horrified at the very thought, and Gen shot her an incredulous look.
“I’m wearing knickers, Ad. What kind of message would it send if I didn’t?!”
“Umm, that you have an amazing arse and know how to show it off in a dress without panty lines marring the view?” she returned without missing a beat.
Gen groaned and hung her head for a long moment while she tried to decide if it would be worth it to fight Adelaide on this point. She really wasn’t a fan of going knicker-less in a dress, but Addi wasn’t wrong, the dress would look better without panty lines. And okay, she knew she would get a rush out of talking to Oliver in that dress with no knickers, even if nothing would come of it. Because he has a girlfriend. One he spoke highly of in that interview. And she wasn’t the type to willingly be the other woman. And Oliver didn’t seem like the type to cheat.
And really, Addi was right - if Oliver was still with Romilda and not really interested in her, there was no reason she couldn’t find someone else who would appreciate peeling the dress off her later, but she still wasn’t comfortable with the lack of knickers, no matter how exciting it would be.
“You’re thinking too much, Vieve! Put the dress on. I’ll find you a pair of shoes, and then I need to get ready. I’m meeting up with this gorgeous girl I met during the game.” And Roberto had given her permission to play while she was in the UK, so she wouldn’t even be in trouble when she went back home!
“I’m wearing knickers,” Gen called back to Addi.
Adelaide groaned from the closet. “But panty lines!” she protested.
“There are charms for that!”
Problem solved.
