RP: Cheaters never win
Who: Calypso & Ginny What: Break ups When: April 15th, early morning (back dated) Where: Ginny's home Warnings: swearing, cheating talk, fighting
Calypso had gone home to Blaise that morning, finding catface in the garden. It was where she had curled up with that big head, still in her dress from the night before, and cried. She wasn’t crying about the lost relationship, she had cried about the guilt, and the fact that she really did feel bad for cheating on Ginny. She knew deep down that she should have left Ginny after Callie had left Scotland. Calypso should have gone directly to the other woman and ended things. Instead she had avoided her like a coward and made the situation so much worse. Without Blaise having to tell her, Calypso knew she had to tell Ginny about it. She wouldn’t tell Ginny who it was with, because that honestly didn’t matter. It wasn’t anyone’s fault but Calypso’s, she was the one who had cheated and had a girlfriend.
After talking at catface, Calypso had climbed into the shower before she decided that she needed to go see Ginny now. She didn’t want to put it off any longer. She owed it to Ginny to just end things instead of dragging them out. Hell, she owed it to herself. She knew already that she didn’t love Ginny, and while that might not have been the largest issue… Calypso knew she wanted and needed more. She couldn’t keep doing this.
When she had finally settled on the idea that she was going to see Ginny after her shower, she had panicked about what to wear. She wanted to channel her inner Oya, the evil bitch that lived deep inside. She wanted to wear something that would make Oya proud, expensive and sexy. Calypso listened to her voice of reason however and had decided on just a pair of muggle jeans that rode low on her hips, some trainers, and an old Slytherin jumper that had once belonged to Blaise so now it hit her about the knees. She had at least fixed her hair, making sure her curls were nearly flawless. The one thing she hated, but had not found a way around, were the glasses. She was wearing her black chunky framed glasses because she had slept in her contacts the previous night. It always irritated her eyes when she did that. This wouldn’t be the first time though that Ginny would see the glasses, they were a nightly thing usually for Callie.
It took far longer than she had expected to settle on the outfit that looked like she had thrown it on. Hours later found her on Ginny’s doorstep, nervously twirling her phone in her hand. She had been debating messaging Astoria all day, she hadn’t been able to bring herself to do it though. With a final deep breath, she lifted a hand up to knock before slipping her phone into her pocket. When she heard the door open, she gave Ginny an awkward smile. “Hey Gin, I hope you’re not busy.. I didn’t even call.” She rolled her eyes a bit, shaking her head. “Sorry, it’s important though.”
Ginny had slept in, feeling energized and excited over their win against Pride of Portree the day before. She'd gone out celebrating after, knowing she should have called Callie to come out with her, but finding all the excuses not to. She cared about Callie, enjoyed what they did together, but she knew her girlfriend wanted more, and that terrified her, even if she wouldn't admit it.
But she had the day off, and after waking up far later than she probably should have, she showered and ate and wondered if maybe her girlfriend might want to go do something with her today. She did actually want to spend time with her, it was just... complicated. That wasn't what she wanted, but it was something she would have to deal with, she supposed.
Before she could formulate a plan for the rest of the day, the knock sounded at her door, and she went to answer it, smiling at her girlfriend at first, because really, she looked so damn cute with her hair curled and dressed in that old jumper. It did make her want to slip her hands underneath - isn't that what over-sized jumpers were all about? And then she noticed the look on Callie's face, and concern replaced her smile. "What is it? What happened?" she asked, her mind jumping to all the people Callie loved most being hurt somehow. She reached out for Callie's hand and tugged her inside so she could shut the door.
Calypso moved with the tug, though she was definitely reluctant. She didn’t want to do this. She hated having to own up to her own mistakes. She had done this hundreds of times before with all the different boys she had tried dating over the years. She had never dragged her heels about it like she was currently with Ginny. Just seeing the other woman’s face had made her wand to chicken out and not say a word. That look of concern had made her stomach drop. Ginny hadn’t deserved Callie cheating, she should have just broke up with Ginny. Calypso was positive if she had just done that after Scotland that maybe Astoria wouldn’t be upset with her, and Ginny wouldn’t be hurt by the betrayal.
“Nothing catastrophic.” Callie said, already moving to take a few steps back from Ginny. She bit at her lower lip a moment, trying to figure out the best way to go about it all. She wondered if she should skip parts, leave big holes. She had been debating since her shower if Gin would care at all. “Gin…” She let out a nervous little sigh, “There’s been a lot going on since the whole… Kermit and Blaise…” Her hands did a little waving motion in the air, an uncertain motion but it was supposed to be circular, “Thing. It had me thinking… About relationships and..” She really wasn’t like that she was stuttering over her own words so badly like this, she was just nervous because she knew what it would all end in, the same phrase. I cheated.
“I realized that… We’ve been together a bit, long enough that I should feel something stronger for you than lust. That I should be starting to feel love and stronger things…” She gave a shrug, “I don’t, and I should have told you this all when I realized it Thursday night…. If I had..” She shook her head, “I went out last night, I ended up going home with someone else.. I’m so sorry, Gin..” Calypso frowned at her hands, she had been speaking to them for a few moments already, but she lifted her eyes to look at Ginny. She wouldn’t be a coward. “I cheated on you, which was so incredibly stupid. You didn’t deserve it. You didn’t do anything… Which was part of the problem. I just… I had to be honest and end things now, before I do more damage.”
Nothing catastrophic? That was rather contradictory to the way Callie was acting, though Ginny supposed she should shove aside any impatience and just let her get it out in her own time. And then she brought up the whole Blaise and Kermit fiasco, and Ginny frowned deeply. That really had been a disaster, but she had never wanted to be in the middle of it all.
Callie seemed to be struggling to get the words out, and she had to bite back the urge to tell her to just get on with it already. That wouldn't help anything, though, so she just kept her lips pressed together in a thin line. When love was brought up, she was just about to interrupt Callie, to tell her that it was okay, that they didn't need the big L yet, that they could take their time, because for fuck's sake she wasn't ready for that level of serious! But then, Callie kept going, and the angry monster in her reared its ugly head.
"You... cheated?" she bit out, anger and betrayal straightening her spine and making her hands curl into fists. Oh, but she wanted to slap her, hex her, something. Despite having cold feet a bit herself, she never would have cheated on Callie, and she felt blindsided. And then it seeped in that Callie actually had the gall to accuse her, to put part of the blame on her for it. "Are you bloody kidding me?! You choose to go out and fuck someone else, and that's somehow my fault?" She couldn't keep the look of disgust off her face - she never would have thought she would actually look at Callie that way.
Calypso’s eyebrows perked when she heard the anger in Ginny’s voice. It appeared that Ginny did care, Callie had been doubting if the other woman did or not. “I didn’t go out looking for someone else to sleep with.” Callie wouldn’t call it fucking, while it had probably qualified, it wasn’t a word that she used with Astoria. The other woman was some beautiful creature, sex with her deserved a prettier name than fucking.
“The part that’s your fault?” Callie was apparently going to stand her ground, irritation was evident in her voice. While she had been trying to stay calm, the next part came out at a bit of a yell. “You didn’t want to fucking be with me. I’m not one of those bimbos that can be perfectly content to be some fucking secret. I opened my entire life to you!” Callie’s jaw set, that cold calculated look she had picked up from Oya ages ago was the expression she wore. She had known this would be bad, she had not however thought they would fight like this.
Apparently yelling was in the cards for today, because the next bit was said in a bit of a screeching scream. “You couldn’t be bothered with me. How long did you expect me to follow you around like some fucking puppy? You made a fool of me at your brother’s wedding. I was your fucking friend that met up with you at the damn party. I didn’t rank high enough to meet Mummy and Daddy.” Callie gave an eye roll then, “I shouldn’t have cheated on you, but you’re not fucking innocent by a long shot.” It took everything in Callie not to pull out her wand, like she usually would have. She typically ended fights by hexing someone, it was how she had gotten rid of her new step-daddy a few times.
The wording didn't escape Ginny's notice. Callie hadn't fucked someone else, she'd slept with someone else. Someone that she must care about in some way, and she suddenly wanted to know who it was just as much as she never wanted to know.
"I didn't keep you a bleeding secret, Calypso! I told my family about you! And don't you dare try to tell me what I was feeling. Of course I wanted to be with you, Callie!" Just because she might not have been ready for the level of serious Callie had apparently wanted didn't mean she didn't want to be with her at all.
And then Callie started yelling, and Ginny's own temper seemed to snap. Her arm lashed out to slap her hand across Callie's face. "How fucking stupid are you? I'm a bloody adult, Calypso! I have a job - a very demanding, time consuming job, not that you'd know what that's like, you're such a pampered fucking princess. You get every bloody thing handed to you, but some of us have to actually work for what we have, and if that means I can't lavish you with the amount of attention you think you deserve, then you fucking break up with me. You don't go behind my back and fuck someone else!" she shouted, her face quickly turning red with her anger. And she did very intentionally refer to it as fucking, and she hoped it bothered Callie.
Calypso couldn’t help the annoyed eye roll when Ginny said she hadn’t kept her a secret. “You didn’t want to be with me! If you wanted to fucking be with me, you would be around. You couldn’t even bring yourself to take me to your fucking brother’s wedding.” That had probably hurt most, especially since other siblings had brought significant other’s that they hadn’t been with nearly as long as they had been together. Her feelings had definitely been trampled on that night and she had let it go, apparently she had let a lot slide for the red head.
The slap had taken her by surprise, even causing her glasses to move on her face just enough that she had to reach up to adjust them. Her eyes narrowed when she was called stupid, it was like a fight with Oya. She was brimming with anger and unable to do anything with her anger. She wanted to hex her, she wanted to scream, she wanted to literally do anything but stand there and listen to Ginny. Just as with a fight with Oya though, she knew better than to do any of that.
“Your job is so demanding,” Calypso said, dripping with sarcasm. “Yet, other players find all the time in the world for their significant other’s. How is it that you’re the only one that can’t seem to find the time? Are you that bad at the game?” Calypso knew she wasn’t, she had been to almost every single game Ginny had. She had missed the last one, but well.. She knew it was a low blow. It was meant to be.
She had caught the change in words, that she had fucked someone else. Calypso may have winced, she wondered if Ginny would blame Romi. Romi was in a public relationship with Oliver Wood though, so she wondered who Gin would blame. She hoped that Astoria’s straight act from the past few years was more than good enough. “Silly me, a stupid fucking princess, to assume that I could have a relationship with a common athlete and feel satisfied. Don’t be pissed at me that you couldn’t keep up.” Her screaming had at least stopped, but it was because she knew if she kept screaming that she would break things. She didn’t want to break Ginny’s things. Instead her words had been cold and hard, void of emotion. She had never learned the voice tricks from Oya the way that Blaise had, the only trick that Callie had picked up had been making this. She could make herself sound so void of emotion and cold, she even had the look that went with it. Though she couldn’t bring herself to give it to Gin, she really did care about the woman. Calypso just didn’t take being attacked very well, even if she was wrong.
That made no bloody sense at all! The season was winding down and they were working their bloody asses off prepping for finals, hoping they'd keep high enough in the standings to make it and then maybe, hopefully swooping out an underdog victory. And the wedding comment, that fucking stung as well. She had taken Callie to the wedding. So the fuck what if they hadn't arrived together?! Did that really fucking matter? She'd told her family about Callie, she'd danced with her and even kissed her and been happy. She was so angry, though, that she couldn't bring herself to say anything, she just stood there fuming.
"All the time in the world?" She laughed humorlessly. "Quidditch players have notoriously awful track records with relationships because of how bloody demanding our schedules are, you daft bint." Gods, how could she have ever thought Callie was someone worth being with? She was cruel and selfish and so bloody infuriating.
Common athlete?! "Get out," she bit out. "Get out of my house. And get the fuck out of my life." She pulled the door open and stared stonily at Callie, not wanting to see her in her home any longer.
Calypso didn't hold back the eye roll when Ginny went on about schedules. "I saw Kermit more than I saw you." Calypso knew that one wasn't terribly fair, Kermit had been all but living with them. She had never turned Ginny away though, she had always made herself available. She was angry though and any logic had left. This was what she had wanted, to break up. She just didn't understand why she had to turn it into a war, she knew it was all her doing but she was far too stubborn to let Gin know that.
The words stung, her heart fell and she didn't understand it. She didn't love Ginny, she just liked being around her. There should have been more, shouldn't she have felt more? Yet hearing her say she wanted her wanted her out of her life had caused such an odd reaction.
Emerald eyes grew wide to try to push the tears she suddenly felt sprint to her eyes. "Gladly." Was said in an icy tone before she left the house. It took everything in her to walk and not run. Years of sneaking up on Blaise and surprise apparating them both had graced Callie with a special set of skills. The second her feet hit the doorstep, she apparate before Ginny could slam the door. She didn't want to hear that, it would make everything too final.
